ORIS or FORTIS?

Assuming similar price, which would you choose?

47mm ORIS 'small seconds' diver (blue or orange)

or

42mm (44mm bezel width) FORTIS Marinemaster

Both are SS

Thanks

Apologies if I've swiped anyone's pics - please just let me know...

Tough choices there. The Oris has a "tool" look to it while the Fortis has a military vibe. They're both sturdy watches so it's pretty much down to aesthetics and I really can't say what'll be good for another person in terms of aesthetics. But, if it were me, I'd get the Oris because I like the offset seconds and cleaner look of the dial.

However, the Fortis does have better visibility due to the large numbers/hands plus it has a Day display. The added utility has got to be a bonus.

Still, Oris makes great watches as well and their diver's models are real standouts in terms of style. So, if you like the style and don't mind the lack of illumination (compared to Fortis), then you can't go wrong here either.

Another factor could be resale. In my opinion, its probably easier to sell the Oris, should you choose to do so. This is always a plus since our tastes change all the time and having the option to sell your old stuff is a real benefit.

Just my two cents...

Thanks lorsban - I've had 3 x Fortis is the past I really like 'em, but I'm leaning more towards Oris this time... I was initially attracted to the blue (if only because it uses C3 lume), but now the black/orange is starting to call... reminds me of the Carlos Coste SE they did a few years ago...

Cheers

I have generally found Fortis to make better watches than Oris. I still wish I had my Fortis back but I got rid of it a couple years ago.

I like the cleaner look of either Oris better than the look of the Fortis.

Good luck with your decision!

I've had most of those mentioned, and would go with the B-42 Marinemaster all the way. The Oris has an overweight look to it with that case, and think it needs to go on a diet. The Fortis has every feature correct except for the crown. The corners of the crown edges can be annoying to the back of your wrist. I wear it loose so I had an issue with that. The B-42 Marinemaster Chrono would be the best looking, but you can pick up a black one for $750-$850 lightly used, and a full lume dial for a pinch more. Your on the right path.

I'd go for the Oris orange small seconds. I wear an Oris 49mm Meistertaucher which looks very similar. It's a very high quality watch.

I voted Orange Oris but I wudn't mind a blue one either :)...the Oris looks like the price you pay for it...fortis is too toolish and military (which I generally like) so in comparison to Oris its just too serious looking a watch...Oris looks more fun, especially the prange/black combo is outstanding

i like the Foris Marinemaster, but i think the date/day fonts are a little "thin"

you can also consider tag heuer aquaracer 500m, or the Oris Diver C with ceramic bezel

Recently, I've noticed some issues with certain oris watches (specifically chronograph and selita movement based models)... I dont' know if it's the fault of customers or just a bad batch of watches, but I would be wary of some oris watches.

That said, their non-complication and eta/valjoux based watches seem to hold up really well.

I believe Oris watches are better made than Fortis IMHO in terms of craftsmanship. Fortis watches are thick and sits too high on my wrist.

Those triangles either side of the date on the Fortis spoil it for me. There's just too much going on on the dial.
