Etched Crown in the Crystal?
When did Rolex begin etching the crown in the crystal on the Submariner? Did Rolex etch crystals on all models at the same time?
Thanks!

I think it started 2003, I have a Sub from 2005 and it has the etched crown, it is also possible to have an earlier watch with a replacement crystal ..which can be identified by an "S" in the base of the etched crown.

The LEC was seen as early as the late 90's on some Daytona models. There is no definite timeline as the LEC phased in to each of the models, but as Erix said, it was fully integrated into the line by late 2003.

Also the solid gold DD's, Subs' etc., got the changes a couple of years before the SS models were fully done.... Probably using up the old parts in the SS models ..

The green crystal does not, the black & white dial do.

So would it be safe to say that the etched crown is now on every Rolex made after 2003, including Cellinis?
