The flipside is everyone seems to have one because it is a classic iconic watch. But if it isn’t for you, move onto something else.

Although I understand where you coming from, can you just wear another less common watch in the collection during these real estate conferences?

If I only had one watch and it happened to be ss sub, I would never get rid of it due to the OP’s reason. Just like a Speedmaster, I find the sub a must have for any watch enthusiast.

On the other hand while being in a sketchy part of the town, I would rather wear a sub rather than any other flashy watch. Some of us do not have G-shocks or Apple Watches, and sometimes get caught in these places by surprise.

In my honest opinion, people don’t really care or even look at watches we wear. I think we tend to be judged more for the vehicles we own or drive. In my area, the tesla and lexus hatchback are like the ss subs you see in a cruise :) I have a relative in Canada that recently purchased a Tesla. I congratulated him and his reply was, “It’s just lie a Camry of California”.

Perhaps contemplate a 116600, a rarity in a world of Subs.

I can relate. But had mine for about 8 years, of which the last 2 or so I did not wear it anymore. I let it go for a Hulk, which I still absolutely love.

Black Sub is a bit boring IMO. It is a classic watch, a great watch, and I understand people’s love for it. I prefer something more visually interesting.

It is just a plain SS with black on black that is so versatile is the allure. Sounds like you will sell it, hopefully, you do not end up missing it.
I have the same issue. I have harder to get watches but without a black sub (5 digit is the classic one for me) I feel like something is missing. I daily mine because it’s so easy and if I need something a bit fancy I’ll grab my Daytona or ceramic Pepsi. I’ve sold a few subs in the past. Had a 5 digit LV also. The black sub is the classic.

I understand your point of view, SubLN is ubiquitous, especially in Real Estate, and even more so behind the Orange Curtain. With that said, it's an amazing daily watch that will stand the test of time. Unless you need the money, I'd say give it a few months and wear it in different environments; you might enjoy it more. But, if you truly don't connect with it, then move on.

If it doesn't make you smile, definitely let yourself move on especially if you can afford to. The whole point of this is to enjoy.

I get it, I've always respected the sub but never loved it or wanted one.

Subs are too small for me, so never had that worry. Downside is anything under 43 I don't think suits me so that eliminates a lot!

I would look at the 126610 LV, I enjoy it tremendously. I was in the same position when I bought the 126610 LN, and traded it back for an LV. The 126610 LN is a lot of glossy in your face black. I find the 16610 LN to be the right amount of black with the aluminum bezel toning it down, and adding the 116610 glide lock bracelet to it so you get the perfect blend of classic and modern with zero gap.

3 weeks later… not connecting with my Submariner Date - moving on

It’s a very basic monotone looking watch. Though I do get the appeal of it being a great daily. That said, I was at a conference last week, every Joe Schmoe had one. I don’t care about exclusivity but the fact that it’s so ubiquitous isn’t cool for me.

I’m thinking about moving on (maybe to add a 126711CHNR or a neovintage AP, or hold out for a SS GMT / SkyD blue or green).

Kind of venting here, but interested to hear what other people think or if they have ever had a similar experience.

Some pics for your time.

Great watch, but not everyone’s cup of tea

I get it. In black/SS, it's cool, but it's not that cool to me. If you're on the lookout for a SkyD, try on a PM one on OF. They're pretty cool. Or maybe a TT black GMT2.

I particularly was looking for 126613ln, black dial 2 tone and it was my first Rolex. Two tone sub works so much better for me.

Now I have Batgirl, Oysterflex Daytona and DJ, but sub still remains my favorite, fantastic watch

Love my Sub, the perfect three hander - yes, they are everywhere - but still a classic.

I know what you mean, excellent watch but it is very very common now so if you’re after something that makes it special and different this is definitely not the watch.

I recently acquired a few Patek. I won’t be going back to Rolex anytime soon.

This is my daily now.

I think you are entitled to your opinion. The submariner is not for me either. The question is why we sometimes buy watches we dont want. I think it is just peer pressure. There are certain models that no one will criticise to express a negative feeling about. I also used to buy forum recommended watches, but for me it led down a road of endless flipping. Most of the watches I am really attracted to are criticised. I like dates, I like some colour. I like some gold. Sue me! I left monotone steel watches a long time ago. Good luck with your future purchases!

I think the SubDate is a super neat Rolex watch. If you do not like it, you don't.
The idea that other people may wear them nevers enters my mind in my enjoyment of the model. Who cares what other folks wear.

I love my sub but it’s definitely not the prettiest watch I have. View it from any other angle than dead on, and it’s ugly.

I really like this one (but then I love montonic watches) but I hear what you are saying. It is quite monotonic and if you dont like that kinda thing then makes sense to move on.

The black bezels are a bit too prosaic for me. If I liked them it wouldn't matter how common or uncommon they were. I go for what I like. Each to our own, something for everybody.
