Does anyone else have this (very much First World) dilemma?

I picked up my DatyonaC in February after ten years wearing a Sub. I hadn't really thought much about flipping the Sub until I saw a pic of the Daytona and absolutely fell head-over-heels. And I can honestly say, five months on, I am even more enamored of my new friend than the day I walked out of the store.

But almost immediately after picking up the Daytona, I started looking around. SkyD, DJ, SD, maybe even a used DD, until - once again, thanks TRF - completely falling for the Hulk. I've been to the AD here at least five times to try it on, and will pick one up once I get back to the States in a few weeks.

And there is the dilemma...as much as I'm DYING to get the LVc on my wrist, I am pretty sure that will be the last watch I buy for a few years. But the thing is, I really like the process leading up to the purchase so much...reading TRF exhaustively, scrolling through the classifieds (both Rolex and non, b/c hey, you never know), and imagining the day I finally get to strap on the new one. It's not going to deter or even delay my purchase of the Hulk, but I will miss the chase, for lack of a better term, as I can't justify yet another watch nor do I want to flip either the Daytona or my yet-to-be-acquired LVc.

Am I alone in this? Or do you guys feel the same?

You enjoy the hunt....so flip a watch every now and then. So long as you buy correctly you'll be ok.

Congrats on the modern-day grail and the new Sub

Perhaps you should now get into vintage. That's where the real hunting is. Not quite like popping into the AD. That's shooting fish in a barrel compared to searching for unicorns with patina just so / xyz dial variant etc.

I'm not content unless I'm thinking about the next or thinking about which needs to go. Not proud of it

What you're looking for is the watch that, after you get it, you stop looking for the next one.

yep i agree,,the "thrill of the chase" always seems to outweigh the end result once the watch is on the wrist,,
also a bit like that with cars,,,jay

Not alone at all. I too crave the thrill of the chase and with exception of the living legend classic watches, that thrill of the chase overpowers the thrill of actually owning the watch.

This is right-on. If you really love a good hunt, there is nothing like vintage.

I once spent two years hunting for the perfect example of a very specific Eterna from the 50's (strange, I know). When I finally found it I was thrilled...and I barely wear it now. But the hunt was great!

Kudos to you and others here for being self-aware and honest enough to admit that. I happen to be a one Rolex guy who is perfectly content, but you are definitely not alone in your condition. I see people here who get far more enjoyment out of researching, hunting for, talking about, negotiating the purchase of, and anticipating the receipt of watches.....than they do out of actually wearing them.

The hunt is great fun, but finding the right watch is even better.

From experience, once one falls for the LVc, it's impossible to get it off the brain. So, I'll just add: pre-congrats!

I had two amazing pieces land in the same day last month. It was sort of a buzkill for one because I couldn't take the other off

I prefer at least 3 months in between incomings.

Totally agree.

But, my last purchase -- Aquanaut -- satiated my watch hunger for a while. Man I love that watch.
