Chaps

This is a topic that come up with regular monotony. The question is asked - does YG look vulgar, some reply saying it looks classy and I will wear what I want whilst some may say it looks vulgar and cheap. Neither side will change their mind.

My view is that wearing a YG Rolex is fine as long as you can accept that many people are going to regard you as a flash, tasteless show off.

If you can accept that, then wear it and be happy.

Regards

Mick

I think Rose Gold is just much more classy but if someone gave me a YG Rolex to wear - I wouldn't say no to wearing it!

I think it used to be douchey but now it's pretty classy.

The all Gold Sub has been replaced by all Gold APs and Hublots

Rose Gold is nice, white gold is nice too, and subtle, but yellow gold can work with only a few kinds of people, I reckon.

I think it's to do with your skin tone tbh. I'm 43 a yellow gold doesn't suit me now or when I was 21 when I got my stainless Sub. I wouldn't buy yellow gold it's just not me.

There are the niche, the watch lovers, who could appreciate a gold watch for the quality of its metal, the design of the watch and the combination of craftsmanship, luxury and function. For such a crowd it does really depend on the wearer.

There is also a cultural element. I live in Asia, and gold is considered "traditional" Jewelry, and to break away from that most young and upwardly mobile gents would avoid a gold watch to avoid coming across as "old fashioned".

Then there are the masses. A Rolex, like it or not, is a status symbol. People will make snap judgements of you. Being in a pluralistic society that is in general quite materialistic, the gold watch to some reflects some of the biggest evils facing our society right now as it has a Gordon Gekko-esque association to it.

I personally appreciate the workmanship and due to the fact that I spent my youth exploring the arctics and the Himalayas, watches like the explorer and DSSD really speaks to me. Additionally, I was given my first Rolex when my mom passed away, so somehow the brand really resonates with me and all Rolex to me has a deep sentimental value. I avoid gold simply because I think gold makes me look like a pimp rather than the versatile person that I am.

I guess the watch is an extension of oneself, and gold simply does not resonate with me.
Let's say like this:
I think it's not important who you live or what you do a Rolex represents a status symbol for most of the people around us.
I think if we speake about Rolex don't matter if it's SS or PM but if it's PM it's more a jewels watch!
I like very much Sky Dweller because it's the most complicated watch Rolex ever made. When I buy it I want it in everose gold! And I wear it casual or dressy and I don't care what other people think!
Yes the big problem is it's a gold Rolex!!! I say this because I have and AP ROO rg and UN El Toro rg who are same amount of money but for 95% of people who I meet it's just a watch with a strange name!)))
Maybe AP say something to they because look like Hublot)))
So, I think we can wear our gold Rolex and that's it!!

I love these threads. It's something I frequently think about. I've been wearing my OQ DD outside the office for over a year now and loving it. If I wore it to the office a few people would no doubt have a stroke.

No kids, no house, no debts....but people don't realize that and know how to measure that. They just see someone under 30 with a gold watch and go....wtf?

Why not wear what you want to wear? People are more likely to judge you as "classy or douchey" (your words, not mine) based on your kindness or lack of kindness.

i haven't read through all 14 pages of this thread, but where you live also makes a big difference. Gold's bigger in Asia, but also even in the US, it's bigger in Miami, as opposed to Philadelphia or NY. There are lots of different cultural connotations. Of course, a lot of time, people don't know any better, they might think that you're wearing a plated or painted gold michael kors or nixon watch.

I think it's all about the personality of the person who wears it. Guy Fiero wears some pretty blingy watches, but it suits him & his personality: without being douchy.

I'm 68 years old and love my 16618 YG Sub. It's my grail watch and I could care less what anyone thinks about it, good or bad. It puts a smile on my face every time I put it on and that's what counts.

Rolex is always classy. However, the owner of a Rolex watch can be either douchey or classy.

I'm not certain why with so many gold plated watches out on the market, a solid gold one would look bad. I think there is no issue unless one is overtly self conscious.

Gold Rolex may be a bit surprising for a person who see it for the first time... but definitively, I think that it is a great option.

(I like the 116618LB)

I think gold watches are particularly a good idea for members of this forum, as most of us are here because no one takes any notice of our watches and our friends and family no longer let us talk to them about them, so the motives we have are quite pure, just personal joy and pleasure, and not for showing off and displaying status and attracting females.

What do you guys think?
Personally, unless I'm wearing at least a collared shirt, I feel "awkward" in wearing any PM.

T shirt, no shirt, beach, etc... will go with my SS Sub over TT DJ and certainly, if I had one, an all gold watch.

Not as much a function of age but wardrobe choice IMO...

I've worn a TT DJ with a t-shirt and shorts, and I thought it was okay. I was on a lobster boat surrounded by subs and I liked it. They were probably thinking, "It's his only one or he'd be wearing a sub too." I didn't want to bleat like a member of a flock, so I didn't.

The most friendly guys on this forum own YG sports watches, so no one can say the object is douchey in itself. Many things must be considered.
