Fedora hat odd ?

Just bought this Borsalino Fedora beaver fur hat from Hollandhats (great experience btw). Nicely made and seems to be a decent quality.
It looks like I am pretty much the only one wearing this style around where I live.
First time I wear a hat and it is very comfortable, but noticed people frown upon. I see a lot of baseball caps but never really liked anyone of those.
Is it that odd to use a classic hat such as a Fedora ?

I have two (Stetson), one matching each top coat I have. They are great hats and will complete the look of a well dressed gent. But generally, are not a good look with anything less than a suit (unless you are Indiana Jones).

You were wise to go with beaver. It's a very durable and weather resistant material. The hat will last for many years.

Nothing wrong with wearing a fedora. As long as you think it looks good on you then that's all that should matter.

They look good and respected. However, it's a lot like a gold Rolex in the sense you need to own the look vs having the hat own you, if that makes sense.

Wear it proudly.

I recall when I was a sophomore in high school, my mother bought me a bunch of beige jeans.

No one wore beige jeans, but I wore them, mainly because we were poor and mother probably got a good deal on them, not because I was a trendsetter.

Before then I wore blue jeans, just like everyone else, except mine were Roebucks from Sears, Roebuck, rather than Levi's, like everyone else wore.

Lo and behold, in my junior year, I showed up on the first day wearing my beige jeans and everyone else was wearing beige jeans, too.

Blue jeans were suddenly hickville.

Be yourself.

If it suits your style wear it. Too many other things to worry about other than what others think of your hat.

I either wear a baseball cap or a kangaroo skin 'cowboy' hat. I don't care what anyone else thinks and neither should you.

As Grady says, 'wear it proudly'

The Internet culture has turned the Fedora hat into an odd piece of clothing. However, if you like it and can pull it off, by all means, don't let that turn you off and enjoy it.

Personally I'm not into hats in general but that's me, I was never into caps really as a teenager.

The fedora (and the much-confused trilby) have been made into "neckbeard nerdwear" of the Internet culture.

Love a Fedora.

I would like to rock one myself. But for sure, it is a style that you need to feel comfortable in.

And if you do.....boss!!!

Fedoras are pure class. I'd love to have one although I wouldn't have much occasion to wear it.

If incorporated into an outfit properly, I think it's a classy, and ballsy move... as long as you pull it off with confidence, it's alllll good!

I have a nice brown one I use with my Halloween costume as Indy... had a pair of Alden's too but I killed them and sold them.

I always loved the fedora but it is true you need the rest of your attire to support it. For me, that would probably be a gray fedora with a gray suit, or a black one to match belt and shoes. I wear (fitted) ball caps mainly. Or nothing on my head.

I did see a guy wearing a (cheap) fedora with shorts and a vest... needless to say it was not a good look. Maybe it could be pulled off in brown with my red wings and carhartt jacket. But other than on Indy, it's just not a "casual" look.

Fedora's are great and you bought a nice one. I say own the look. Put your hat on and go out in the world. What does it matter as long as you like it. If you wear it enough people will ask you where your hat is when you don't have it on. A lot of people forget that a hat can be a tool to keep your head warm or cool. Keep the sun out of your eyes, etc. Have fun with it.

I'm out in the sun quite a bit at the track. The old baseball cap doesn't get it for sun protection, so went to one of these about 10 years ago and nothing beats it.
