Rolex Submariner 16610 Review

I just purchased my first Rolex timepiece on the 12th!

This was a gift to myself because I recently just got out of the Marines (hit the end of my contract; I was honorably discharged from active duty in 2005), I am graduating from Virginia Tech in May and I landed my first job as a graphic designer without even applying to the agency that hired me. So I plan on getting "USMC/VPI&SU/NCM" engraved on the back on different lines very soon to celebrate all of these huge personal accomplishments.

So, here's my review thus far:

Not too heavy, not too large, not too small. It has a great weight, it's super comfortable and doesn't pull my arm hair. It's awfully attractive and looks great. Something that may or may not be a new aesthetic feature on the new Submariners is the Rolex engraving around the inner bezel w/ the serial number at the top. I think that that is actually my favorite subtle feature.

I said this on Amazon and I'll say it here: it's a Rolex, but it's just a watch. Now, the difference with this watch and my others (Gucci, Movado and Armani) is that I am completely satisfied with the Rolex. Perfect dressed up, perfect dressed down. Beautiful features and says boldly, "this is the only watch you'll ever need." And I think that is the beauty of a Rolex, you pay for satisfaction.

I am a graphic designer and am never fully satisfied with any of my work and it translates to the rest of my life; I'm never content. Not with my car, not in relationships (unhealthy, I know)... but I can honestly say that with this watch, I am completely pacified by the perfection of it.

So, would I recommend others to buy this or any other Rolex? Asbo-freaking-lutely. I don't know too many other friends that will throw down $6k on a watch in their mid-20's, but that's another thing I love, it makes someone stand out (in a superficial way, but I'm okay with that).

Cheers all.

Indeed, timeless beauties. A submariner today or one from 30 years ago, equally remarkable and virtually unchanged in its form and function. A Rolex of today has as much appeal as one of yesterday. One of the things I greatly admire about Rolex. Enjoy your 16610, I certainly enjoy mine. Cheers!

Don't want to hijack this thread, but thanks Karis. Yeah I too love the black diamond dd....it's the most recent Rolex I bought during my Rolex buying frenzy that began just a few short months ago....but let their be no mistake about it, the love affair has been going strong since teenhood, and I'm now 35. I'm telling you, these watches are absolutely timeless.

I'll post up some pix of my beauties in another thread one of these days.

Thanks for the review and of course the photos

I'm interested in your statement:

Naturally there will be some who may judge the wearer as superficial, but those kind of assessments or opinions are most likely themselves to be superficial in nature.

Others may well judge a person wearing a Rolex as technically astute or a person who appreciates the robustness of the timepiece.

In the end its more what you think of your own watch and how you enjoy it, knowing what it is, than anything anyone else may think of you.

At least that's the way I tend to feel
