One icon from each big Swiss company

I think some of these are easy (and I'll open with those) but some of the lesser known brands (current and past), what are the 'one' watch to have from that brand for a well rounded and thought out collection?

Rolex = Submariner. Exact model/vintage may vary, but I think that 'sub' is a given

Omega = 'Moon watch' Speedmaster. For all of Omega's other faults, they kept true to the original better than any other watch company for a long time.

Breitling = Navitimer. Many flavors here too. I think the 24-hour Cosmonaute is the cool model to have. Like Omega, they still offer something very similar to the original.

Blancpain = Fifty Fathoms

Doxa = Sub 600 (Thanks to Dirk Pitt)

How about Tudor? My fave is the 9411, but the early 2-register chronographs are sweet as well...

Fortis? (Marinemaster maybe?) Tissot? Ulysee Nardin? Universal Geneve? Oris? Rado? Longines? Zodiac? Zenith?

One icon from each maker for your collection for this exercise...

Lets have some fun!

DJ for rolex this debate always rages. I would say Sub for Tudor.

I can't believe I forgot Heuer. I grew up watching racing with my Dad through the 70's and my first "good" watch had to be (and was) a Heuer. Tag Heuer actually as I found out when I finally purchased it.

But, IS the Monaco the one model? Maybe so...

JLC Reverso I agree. Good call. Great watch too. Maybe someday I will be fortunate enough to own one.

PP Calatrava I agree. The Nautilus is not what springs to mind when I think Patek personally..

I should have foreseen the Rolex debate, but I think most people getting into "good" watches thinking about Rolex, the sub is what springs to mind. I know the DJ is older and more sell per year (I think so still?) but the sub is the icon in my mind at least.

Not terribly easy is it? Just one from each maker.

Timex is not Swiss but I remember the crazy TV commercials as a kid where they beat the snot out of them and they (allegedly) kept running...

I do own a Timex too. A modern chronograph with Indiglow- useful at night by the bed! I think it needs a battery because the chrono runs weirdly lately.

Yep. I also remember those commercials. John Cameron Swayze was the pitchman.

I'd say that you could also think of the Antea for Stowa.

Hey, where is Lange? And Glashuette?

I am not sure what is the most iconic one though from their line. Perhaps a Lange 1, or a Zeitwerk, or a perpetual chrono... for Lange.
For Glashuette, I think it has to be a Pano, but again not sure which one.

Edit: YOU SAID SWISS... my bad

My personal preferred definition of an icon is the watch that you'd recognize immediately a mile away, or the model that defines the brand in some cases (a model that has not been dramatically changed since introduced), or it could be simply the brand's best seller (even if it's not popular among WIS), therefore couldn't list one icon per brand... Here is my list (with little help from Chrono24)

1) Rolex: Submariner / Day-date / Datejust / Daytona / GMT Master

2) Breitling: Navitimer / Chronomat

3) Omega: Speedmaster Professional / Seamaster /Constellation

4) Tag Heuer: Monaco / Carrera

5) Tudor: Black Bay (Current)

6) AP: Royal Oak

7) PP: Perpetual calendar Chronos (1518 /2499 /3970 /5004/ 5270) / Nautilus / Calatrava

8) VC: Patrimony / Overseas

9) Breguet: Classic /Type XX /Marine

10) JLC: Reverso / Master control

11) Cartier: Tank /Ballon / Pasha /Calibre

12) Chopard: Mille Miglia / LUC

13) Blancpain: Fifty Fathoms / Leman / Villeret

14) IWC: Portuguese / Ingenieur / Pilot

15) Richard Mille: RM011

16) Roger Dubuis: Excalibur

17) Ulysse Nardin: Marine collection

18) Zenith: El Primero

19) Hublot: Big Bang

20) Longines: Lindbergh /Master Collection

21) Maurice Lacraux: Masterpiece

22) Piaget: Altiplano

23) Panerai: Luminor / Radiomir

24) Rado: Original / Star

25) Vulcan: Cricket

26) Baume et Mercier: Copeland / Classima / Hampton

27) Bell & Ross: BR collection

28) Bulgari: Bulgari /Octo

29) Corum: Admiral

30) Gerard Perregaux: WWTC / 1966

31) Hamilton: Khaki /Jazzmaster

Comprehensive list!

Can you narrow it to one per brand? I agree it's not easy!

I think it's going to be the first model of each listed brand IMHO.

Cool lists on this thread. It would be awesome if someone has a collection close to what's listed and posted a pic.
