IWC vintage collection Da Vinci

Hi TRF,
I have a small modest collection of a AP RO 41mm Chrono and M Series Seadweller yet I am missing a leather band dress watch. I am fairly new to watch collecting and am struggling to see anything which sings to me. My choice is made harder by the fact I am a fairly big guy and in need of a 40mm + watch.
After soul searching for a while I have stumbled across a SS IWC Vintage collection Da Vinci and am trying to find a preowned model on TRF. Does anyone have experience with the watch or brand in general. I like the square/rectangular look but not having seen the watch in the flesh I am unsure about the strap which fattens out and maybe looks to fashion bracelet like. Lastly what size of wrist can it take

Hello,

I'm a longtime IWC fan, and I have handled the VC Da Vinci a number of times. Just like all current IWC's it's a large watch, doubly so for a dress watch. I don't find this particular watch to be to my taste, but it is a very nice watch with a nice in house movement. If you're looking for a large "dress" watch, I think IWC is the perfect brand for you. They sell some dressy watches that range from large (40mm Port chronograph) to extremely large (45mm hand wound Port).

Let me know if you have any particular questions. Also, there was someone selling one in mint condition for a very reasonable ($4,000 or so) price on Timezone.com. It might be worth a shot to search for that poster and see if he still has his. Besides that, I can't recall seeing one on the secondary market.

Thanks, as I said I really am finding my feet on the watch collecting front but I do nonetheless need a bigger size leather and dress watch. I am ideally looking for an auto and IWC certainly tick a few boxes. I am also looking at Omega annual calendars in SS but they too are unknowns in my book.
I am going to do some fishing on the omega page too. The only things that worry me with the IWC is the fact I have only seen pictures. they seem to be quite a niche as well so IF i ever wanted to sell would i be stuck with it. Llastly I am just not keen on the basic buckle ( excuse my lack of the correct watch name)

Regarding the buckle, you can definitely pick up a deployant from IWC. The larger watches require the 18mm version. You probably wouldn't be able to sell an IWC as easily as a Rolex Sub, but there is a good and robust market for their more mainstream watches. The Portuguese Auto is a very popular choice.
