You can identify a meteorite by its Widmanstatten pattern,Rolex uses for there dials meteorite made from the Gibeon meteorite, the Gibeon had a very high nickel content, so it's very stable and basically won't rust. And the main cost is not so much the meteorite material around $5-$6 a gram for top quality slices, it's the labour process costs to produce a perfect dial and everyone unique and one of a kind pattern wise.

In case you worry: Alternative 1: spray the watch with Rust Stopper Alternative 2: Move til Mojava desert - dry climate = no rust Altenative 3: Don´t worry I´ll pick number 3 |

Beautiful! Unfortunately I don't own a watch with a meteorite dial, but I really wish I did.
I think my "dream watch" would probably be an Explorer with a meteorite dial.

It's a remarkable watch although darker hand and index edges à la Explorer II Polar might help with the contrast. Not that I've ever seen one for real.

I don't get the meteorite hype, it's not rare and there are actually abundance of them on earth. lots of meteorite for sale on ebay at cheap prices, plus there are constant supply from outer space every year!

Almost no Rolex is rare. Is that even a requirement to find such a dial beautiful? I personally like it because the dial is always unique and it looks different based on the lighting. And it's just cool to say that it's not from this world.

For me, it is both the beauty of the material itself, and the fact that we can’t create it here on earth. As far as we know, the only way to generate that wild Widmanstatten pattern is to toss a molten blob of iron alloy into a vacuum and let it cool over millions of years. |
