For the GMT function buy the Polar Explorer II.
For the "true Rolex" buy the Sub-C. I own both and I'm happy. |

For me personally, I prefer the sub over GMT. but the older LV would top them all

I too am in the same dilemma for my personal collection. I have a 116613 TT Sub-C already, but can't decide if I want the GMT-C or black SS Sub-C. I can get either of these for under $7K new so it makes it that much harder. |

I have them both but I wear the GMT II ceramic all the time. I was faced with the same but find the use of the GMT more practical. Sub, GMT same , same :)

This thread is awesome - there is no correct answer, it's what works for you.
I am leaning to the Sub as my 1st Rolex. |

More bang for the buck with the GMT2 if you ask me. Especially for the average desk divers.

Resale is strong on both, especially in stainless. AD discounts, if any, on new are also similar.

It's easy enough to check this for yourself. Just research the for sale offerings here and you will see what kind of discounts are offered on these two models. I think you will find they are pretty close (The GMT retails for $100 less than the SubC, btw). It's probably best to look at prices for new since condition doesn't become part of the equation. I think the relative values in the used market are probably similar to new. Some will say forget about resale; get the watch you want. But I understand that perhaps you may buy and sell watches or consider resale value in justifying the purchase. But this is not a problem with either of these watches really. Both the Sub and GMT can find a home fairly easy if you need to get it out of your inventory.

Welcome to the forum. They both have 20mm lugs and are both in the 40mm supercase.

I think the Submariner is much better looking. Hate all the numbers on the bezel on the GMT, and the GMT has polished centre links :/ Submariner is the classic Rolex.
