Search function
Why is it when I use the search function on this sight I can never find anything I look for. No matter what I put in the search field I always get " Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms" What am I doing wrong?

What searches are you doing?
State the searches you have done.

Let's get all specific.
I've just performed a search for "Datytona". I am using Firefox on Windows 7. Try the same and grab the screen in the same way as I did so we can compare. If you are not using Windows/Firefox please specify exactly which OS/Browser you are using in your test. 3.JPG

Try the model name including the IWC. Example: IWC Ceramic Doppelchronograph, IWC Big Pilot. You'll get all the hits you want..... Same thing, you need to be more specific! Just typing in GMT is to broad, and thats how the search function is set up with the forums format. Be more Specific, and search by either model number(116710), or GMTI, or GMTII. Even BLNR.....all just examples, but you get the gist! Then let me know how many hits you have to search.

Like Rob said just 3 single letters is no good for any search for GMT put say Rolex GMT or Rolex 16710.

If you search this website for something like "GMT" there are going to be literally thousands of search results.
With that many results it isn't really a proper search. First of all select the sub-forum you want to search. Then select the aspect of the "GMT" that you are seeking information about. For example it might be a model so you put in "GMT 1675" for instance. There will still be many pages of results because remember there are over 5,000,000 posts on this website. So add more words to your search to more refine what you are looking to investigate.

OK, but searching for "IWC" in a specific section - for example the classified non - rolex section should return results. As a user, I do not trust the search results when I search for IWC and on the first page there is an IWC watch and the search engine says no results. The search engine should say - term too broad, please refine your search term to a more specific string - or something like that. System trust is lost when when the messages given do not match the actual logic. The software is saying your term is not specific enough for it to do a search, not that it was an error and no results were returned.

Capture.JPG The error covers three possible criteria. As far as your "the search engine should this and system trust that" pronouncements, all I can say is that this is not a commercial site and therefore customer is not always right. That privilege is for us power mad mods and admin.
