Should I?
Hello everyone and happy thanksgiving!
I've been really thinking about building an omega speedmaster on a NATO for some time now and now is when the itch is getting bigger and bigger. The reason why I would like to build one little by little is because I can buy a part or two every month and once it's built I will feel really happy and proud of the final product. I won't put everything together but as far as sourcing the parts (case, dial, hands, movement) I think it would be fun. Do you guys think I should piece up the speedy together or just buy one out right? Money is not an issue at all but I would think it will be kinda fun and I would feel like a little kid at toys r us when the part gets shipped to my house lol

Build one...I did it with a Seamster 300. It only took me a week but it was a blast. So much fun I am doing another one next week.

I really don't know anything about omega's and this will be my first one. I don't know what movements they have and what movement goes to what watch. I know that stuff when it comes to rolexes but not this brand. Post pics of your omega!! I would love to see it

Ofrei sells the case, as does Cousins UK. I bought a kit of parts from Watchco...I have dealt with Rob there for many parts over the years. Price was a tad higher than if I sourced parts elsewhere, but for me this was one stop shopping and great customer service.
If I were you get the case first, but start looking for the movement now. Keep looking...always be looking. Here is the link to Ofrei...$1500 before shipping for the 300 case. Dont know if they sell the Speedy case though. I went on the Cousins UK site and did a mock up order for everything that I got from Watchco...the price delivered is about $250 US cheaper, but I think there is customs involvement with the carrier they use in the US. Not interested in that. http://www.ofrei.com/page1184.html Here is my watch:

Thank you very much Peter for your help! I'm planning on building a speedmaster with the 861 movement and I'll definitely check that website out for parts when I'm ready. I appreciate your comments and pictures.
Happy thanksgiving to you and be safe out there brother
