5513 meter first

Was offered this 5513 at a price I think below current market.
I think the price reflects the condition of the hands relative to the dial. Accordingly these are original hands and dial. Am just wondering if original, what caused such difference between the dial and hands?

By the way it is a ‘67 1.6m series

The dial appears to have had a little work on it in the past - most notably the dial lume which is evidenced by the splotchy, lumpy dial markers. As far as the hands go, the lume could very well be genuine, original lume.

What did the seller tell you about the lume? Whether he mentioned the dial being re-lumed or not, it probably was reflected in the lower price.

Moldy lume on the hands. Darkens it and blocks some of the luminous emission.

The seller didnt mention about a relumed dial. But I suspect it might be relumed from the look of the markers.

The mold just looks awful. I guess there is no way to remove it unless a total relume?

Asking about USD10k. Gonna give it a pass.

I think the dial could be untouched, but rather just has had some of the lume crumble off over time. Think the glow looks right in comparison to mine from late 66! Anyways - always awesome with the Zinc Sulfate dials from the early batches of meters first dials. The hands are beyond fixing as I am aware, but seem original. You can relume them, but no way to remove the corrosion on the hands themselves without getting through to the brass underneath.

I think the price is decent considering the over all condition of the watch. I paid more for mine, but the case on mine is a lot sharper. Original bracelet and long 5 insert is a big plus, though :D

For me, the UV photo does not appear to depict old, crumbling zinc sulfide lume but instead, depicts a typical poor relume job. It appears to be relumed with green aftermarket lume readily available on the internet. Also, I would expect to see some "sparklers" in the lume which is common in original lume.
