Decision Day on DD36 or Trade For 40

I have to decide by sometime today. The options are as follows:

1) Trade my 6240 & 16600 plus 3k for a naked 228206 index motif dial
2)same trade as above plus 16k for new complete 228206
3) Trade my 6240 and my 118206 for a new unworn 228206 complete…no cash
4) just stay as I am

I have a mint 1181206 glacier blue Roman but have been hankering for a DD 40 but have been torn. I could trade a 6240 and a 16600 for a naked 228206 that needs polishing plus $3k. Or I could trade my 6240 plus my 118206 for a brand new unworn 228206. The other option is to do nothing. I have been burned by my impulses in the past and my head says do nothing while my heart says do another trade. I really don’t want to spend too much cash and I am on a wait list for other goodies including a fluted DD 40 but I honestly like the index motif dial more. I have to decide by end of play today. I am showing my 118206 as well as my Daytona in question as well as the bulk of my collection as it stands now. Please help the head vs heart.

Your collection looks great from modern to vintage and PM /SS and also the diversity of quality time pieces. Just try to wear them and rotate those beautiful pieces on a daily basis !

The collection looks great as it is and I would be hesitant to part with the Daytona.
If wanting to add a DD40 I'd trade or sell the DD36 and see if you're comfortable with the difference in price.

Please don’t trade your Daytona. Especially not under a time constraint.

Amazing collection.

I’d trade others towards the DD40, but not the Daytona

I feel like I can read your mind, but here’s what I’d do lol

Trade Daytona and 16600 for a new 228206 and still have a beautiful 36mm yellow gold in your collection. Then take your time selling the 36mm platinum and get something else that does it for you

Pm me how much you’re finding new 228206 for

The only bad decision is trading that Daytona. DD come and go.

Without understanding the value of the Daytona and the specifics of that model I am making a less than completely informed decision but here we go. Sit tight. I would not operate under the time table of do it today or don't do it. Plenty of watches out there to be purchased, traded for, just admired from afar. I have been down the same road as you before and I have learned when a decision is not clear or at least reasonable based on logic I wait until it is. Let us know what you decide and the time frame.

I'd go with your Option 3 (sell the 6240 and the 118206), but only if you feel like you have a clear head and aren't totally in love with the 6240 because that'd be the hardest one to replace. All the others are easy.

Reasons (which reflect my own preferences and not yours):

(1) Most Daytonas (including the 6240) are unattractive and uninspired to me. They do nothing for me when I look at them. I feel the same way about the Patek Nautilus/Aquanaut aesthetic.

(2) I like the 16600 SD and wouldn't part with it.

(3) Big fan of the 228206. Took me way, way too many years to finally pull the trigger. It's a nice watch!

All these Daytona lovers! I personally would ditch that thing so quick. They don't do anything for me, especially in that condition

I had no idea what a 6240 was, but saw that Daytona in the pictures and thought, "Wait, he's not proposing to get rid of a vintage Daytona, is he?"

Decision Day on DD36 or Trade For 40

That DD on your wrist is the right size, for you. Keep it! If you have to ask strangers, what you should do, don’t do anything! Wait until you have a clear idea of what you want. To everyone who says, “Don’t trade the Daytona!”, maybe, like me, he doesn’t care much for it….. I’d rather have a Speedy Pro.

Ditch the watches you don’t wear and get the DD40 you want. If you don’t wear them what’s the point?

Nowhere does he mention not wearing his watches. What’s YOUR point? I think he doesn’t care for the Roman Numeral dial on his DD36. I think 36 is the right size DD, for his wrist. He should trade it for another 36 DD, with stick markers.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m having a difficult time understanding why one would consider selling/trading their 6240 for a Day-Date.

I must admit to being terribly biased towards chronographs.

Agreed. The proportion and the fit of his DD36 is literally perfect for his wrist. Can easily pass as being both sporty and dressy.

Good! (As a general matter, I am predisposed against “act NOW or else” proposals.)

While we’re here tho, can we see a nice close-up of what appears to be your lapis lazuli dial YG DD? (Or is that onyx?)
