Shopping for Deepsea, Ending up with a SS Black Daytona

I went to my local AD in New Jersey shopping for a Deepsea. I started talking about the SS Black Daytona. While I was still admiring the Deepsea with my newly acquired B&L 10x loupe, he went quietly to the back to get the brand spanking new in the "clear plastic Rolex shipping box" SS Black Daytona. I thought I was passed out and experienced out of body experience at that moment.

Both Rolex models were sitting on the counter mat. The decision was pretty clear. I just stood there and couldn't believe it. Now, my 4 months old Black Explorer 2 will not be lonely any more.

Congratulations on your new watch but might I suggest you put your loupe away in a draw, sometimes a loupe can be a new watch owners worst enemy.

know the feeling... going to an ad to get the dssd, getting the milgauss. Going for a comfy dj and buying a comfier gmtii. planning to pick up sub-c, getting an old style LV.
Trying on a rolex is far far away from reading forum post about the same watch.

I was at the AD Morre Lyons in Clifton, NJ. If you are there and don't see what you want in the display case, you need to ask. Ron is the man who helped me out. The Deepsea was hidden somewhere. The Daytona was also hidden somewhere out of sight.

Update. I synchronized the watch according to time.gov at midnight, October 17. It has been about 15 hours now. The timing is still spot on in dial up position with the chronograph function running throughout the night . I do this to break in the watch. I just want to get whatever lubricant in those gear spread evenly. Everyone should do this like once a week. It is like a car, parking it in the garage can do more harm than driving it on the road.

I think you made the right choice. To bad it was after the price increase. To me the DSSD is too large and too heavy for the average person.

Should have gone with the DSSD. Now you won't know the date!

Seriously, great watch and it's a classic. Either way you can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Yes, they're all Rolex's and all are winners!!!

All these comparisons of which is better than the other is actually getting a bit overdone and redundant, don't you think eveyrone???

It's all personal taste and preference and to each their own!!

:agree :
