Officers down, Charlotte PD, NC

Police Officer Joshua Eyer succumbed to gunshot wounds yesterday he sustained while assisting in serving a warrant on a convicted felon in the 5500 block of Galway Drive in east Charlotte.

At 1:30 p.m. members of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The wanted subject ambushed them with a high-powered rifle and engaged them in a prolonged gun battle.

Investigator Sam Poloche, Investigator Alden Elliot, and a Deputy United States Marshal were killed at the scene. Officer Eyer succumbed to his wounds several hours later. Three officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and a second Deputy United States Marshal were also wounded.

The wanted subject was shot and killed and two subjects were taken into custody for questioning.

Investigator Eyer had served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for six years and was the Officer of the Month for April 2024. He is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.

Godspeed my brothers, may you all Rest In Peace.

I’m only 45 miles N of Charlotte, so this is all the local news consist of this morn. A total of FOUR officers/marshals killed, another four wounded.

Condolences to all the families, and best wishes to the wounded.

It’s hard to understand how that many officers could be killed/injured in this situation by a single gunman in a non-sniper residential situation.

Rest in Peace Police Officer Joshua Eyer. Prayers for the comfort of the family, community and the Department as well as the US Marshal Service on the loss of their members.

As a retired LEO from North Carolina I got notice from some fellow retirees of this while it was unfolding. The news just got worse and worse as it went on. The impact on the families and community, far and wide, is so great it is impossible to measure. My thoughts and prayers are with the families.

Godspeed to all who gave their last full measure of devotion to protect and preserve peace for us all.

Prayers for full recovery of the remaining wounded. As well as for the families whose lives are forever altered by the senseless slaughter.

This story is so appalling and tragic. Rest in peace, and deepest sympathy for the families suddenly left behind.
