Thanks for posting it, Ed. It's all completely focused on the opposite reason most of us have bought our watches, with worse comments. Everyone's talking about what a Rolex broadcasts to the world, when it reality, it doesn't broadcast more than a blip. One of my best friends knows I wear a Rolex, and he's never once said anything about it, nor has he asked me about my financials. He doesn't care. Most people don't care, nor notice.

You're welcome and yes, the author of that article lives in Asia (Singapore to be exact) where they mostly judge you by what you wear and/or the way you look. I know since I travel to southeast Asia a lot albeit it's getting better with the newer generations. It's quite the opposite here (although they still look at me funny in Beverly Hills with my shorts and sandals on lol). It's interesting for me to read everyone's input on the subject nonetheless.

Why a man with many luxury watches doesn't wear one any more
I always tell my friends that you're never gonna impress girls with a watch. The only people that will notice the watch are other watch guys. So if you're getting the watch, for any reason other than yourself being a watch enthusiast, dont.

the writer or his father obviously do not appreciate watches as we do but see them as something that will inflate their ego.

The story would have been much better and logical if he bought a Grand Seiko.

If you cast aside your opinion of watch brands, I think Seiko's arent very well built compared to your average Swiss equivalent, let alone a Rolex. They just feel cheap.

He may have a point on the safety aspect.

I buy the watch because I like the case and movement.

The last time I was out on a stag/bachelors night a few strippers were impressed with my Rolex but instead of giving me a dance for free they wanted to charge me double the price so was no bloody point.
