Traded my watches for a vacation home! Kind Of!

Before I bought my first Rolex I made a post regarding resale value…

Armed with the responses that I received I went out and bought my first Rolex – My 116610LN then a Tudor Black Bay then an 116610LV, then my 214270 soon after the 116710BLNR joined the club, the wife too got an 114200 and finally the 114300 Rhodium found its way into the watch box.

During a recent trip to Colombia, the dream of owning a (humble) vacation home in my birth country was more alive than ever and because of the favorable exchange rate I realized I could make that dream come true with very little money out of pocket, without touching my 401K, touching my savings or pulling my investments. The only thing I had to do was dump all of my watches.

And that is exactly what I did. Without taking any major losses I was able to liquidate my entire collection, fork up a little extra cash and ladies and gents, my dream vacation home is now being built.

I miss all of my watches dearly and I’ve already placed an order for what is going to be my only Rolex for a long time. But for now, I get to laugh at my early posts on TRF where I was concerned about resale values.

Sorry about the long post and while this may not be very impressive to most here, I am proud of this accomplishment and the fact I was able to make a small sacrifice to make a dream come true! This has been my Rolex journey.

That's fantastic! It looks like you still have a Rolex on your wrist, too (photo 1, above).

Well done on achieving your dream.

Thanks Stephen! Yup, had my 116610LV which was the last one to go before all the moneys were due.

Can't wait to have another one back on my wrist.

Nothing quite like making one of your dreams come true, congratulations! Hopefully you'll have another Rolex on your wrist in no time.

What part of Colombia if you don't mind me asking? Cartagena is one place I'd love to visit someday soon.

Thank You!

Cartagena is beyond beautiful and it is one of those places you just have to see to believe.

I'm originally from Medellin (which is another mesmerizing place nowadays) but my home is being built in the outskirts in a town called La Ceja , Antioquia.

Congrats! That's amazing and having a vacation home in your country of origin is a huge deal. You've done very well and this is proof of why I'm proud to be a WIS. Nothing against other hobbies but with most of them very little (if any at all) can be recovered financially. Congrats again

That's great! In Hong Kong my collection wouldn't pay for a half share in a car parking space.

Enjoy the new place and look forward to more pics!

A watch can always be had and know that it will find it's way back your wrist soon.

Well done! congrats!! I did a similar move a few months ago....involving my first Platona and a new mountain vacation home. We are heading up to the mountains this weekend, and are still in the honeymoon phase with it (appliances, furniture deliveries, etc...) I hope you thoroughly enjoy the process of achieving your new vacation home!

BTW...your collection will be back at some point...just think of the fun of reacquiring new pieces (I have a Platona on my wrist as we speak) :)
