1st Post - Please advise on my wedding purchase (SS DJ)
Hello TRF members. This is my 1st post so please understand if i do not have
wide knowledge about rolexes. My fiance and I are in shopping for our wedding watches and decided to go with Rolex. My fiance currently have SS Date with jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, white dial, romans in 26mm. We were thinking about same style watch but just different size to match as a couple. I really love the jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel look. I went to my AD and tried on the Black dial with romans and i fell in love with it. I also tried on DJ II with black dial with romans. I was eyeing on DJ II since it was new collection but 41mm was kind of big for my figure, also did not like oyster bracelet that much. I decided 36mm was classic and right size for me. Here is my dilemma, i got quoted $5500 including tax for my SS DJ fluted bezel jubilee bracelet, black dial with romans. $5300 for my fiance's DJ mid size same as above, so grand total of $10,900 for both watches. but one of Los Angeles jewelry district dealer quoted me $10,600 for both watches, but i know this is grey market. (not an AD) Since this is my valuable investment would you guys recommend where i should purchase my watch? one of my friend told me its ok to purchase from grey market since rolex is serviced at dealer not the jeweler, but my AD told me it can be rejected in some case for service or what not. and one more thing, do you think its too much if i get diamonds every hour version? (im 29 btw) Thanks You guys in advance. Good day~ |

Nice choice I got my wedding watch; SS DJ, Model 116234 jubilee bracelet, white gold bezel, silver face with diamonds at Kirk Freeport on my honeymoon for $6K have also priced at Alan Furman in MD for not much more. I'd stick with the AD

Grey market might not be serviced by Rolex. They are usually significantly discounted. If you purchase it from an AD, you will have an actual Rolex warranty, and be able to have the watch fixed by Rolex.

if you'll get it from the grey market ask for more discount..But if only 300d difference,go with the a.d. Go for a grey market if the difference will be over a thousand.. regarding service,You can always have your watch serviced on any rolex center. It won't be a problem..And the grey dealers also give warranty...

Hey UFO212...congrats on your upcoming nuputals..
my wife and I got matching DJ for our wedding as well from my folks..mine was the 16234 with silver roman dial.. there are several trusted sellers on the for sale section (check who's who)...where you can order the exact watch... PM me if you like to have some AD reference out of state (to safe tax)...

Get it from an AD! Although the price of the two combined seems a bit high. I would definitely the "For Sale" section here on TRF. If nothing, negotiate further with the AD!

My advice is for you to go with a SS Sub Date and a Sub No Date for her.

Can I assume you're talking about watches with white gold bezels? In that case, yours would retail for about $6,500, hers for about $6,000. Right now, I'd expect 15-20% discount from an AD on a stainless watch (certain models excluded), and closer to the 20% off if buying two together. Any time there's precious metal involved, the discount should increase. If you want to buy from an AD (and I certainly would want to for this kind of purchase), my personal advice (and others will offer their opinions) would be to shoot for $9,500 for the two.
By the way, if you were talking about all-steel watches, retail on the two should only be about $10,500-$11,000, so I'd shoot for $8,500 on the two, with $9,000 not being unreasonable. Again, others will correct me if I'm way off base. |
