Vancouver, BC GTG and Group Buy

Hi all,

Starting this new thread so that the "Group Buy" component of the GTG is more visible. The original thread is here:
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=182955

Based on what was discussed in a previous thread, here are the details so far:

GTG
Proposed Date: July 30th, 2011
Proposed Meeting Place: Downtown Vancouver, room arranged by J.Alan
If it's a nice day maybe we can then move to a restaurant patio somewhere in the vicinity.
AD Tour: Suggestions? Do we want to do this? Note: Depending on the amount of people that attend the GTG the logistics of carting everyone around to different ADs might be an issue. Also ADs may not like having a very large group invade their store without some advanced notice.

Group Buy
There is no guarantee that we are going to get any increased discount compared to individual shopping. We need to get a concrete list of group buy participants (serious buyers) and which watch(es) they'd like to purchase. Once we have this list we can approach our contacts within the city to see what level of discount they can give us. We can then compare our notes and decide on a final AD to complete the group purchase, if it's still worth while. Let's break in to those piggy banks! A large number of group buy participants will give us more leverage when bargaining! We need the watch details if you are participating the the group buy (see below). No commitment is necessary until we get the final numbers and publish it to the participants, but if you agree with the discount and AD buying terms we hope you will follow through.

Final date to submit your Group Buy participation details: July 25th, 2011

**Note: All dates are subject to change**

Please copy and paste what is below the dashed line in your thread response:

As I pointed out in the other thread. This gtg is conflicting on a date where many of the other fora Wis are rsvp'ing to a Paneristi event. My suggestion is network with their event then try to start up this Rolex & group buy later.

Ahhh but Port Moody is so out of the way
What does everyone else think about meeting up at the Panerai event? I could do that.
Since the group buy only has one person and me as a possible, maybe we should postpone that part??

I know. The January event was at an Alberni Street restaurant in DT. Oh well, go where the numbers will be :)

There are lots of Vancity TRF's posting on here. Just seems hard to get them out! Lots of Paneristi, WUS and TZ's have been able to join up and have great GTG's the past few years though.

Maybe we should delay the group buy until the September long weekend to see if interest will build. I am not a PAN person, so I will likely miss this event - but hey, democracy rules!! If we decide to delay the Rolex meeting until September, I will make the rounds to the AD's to check out their interest in a group purchase or tour on the August long weekend. Let me know if anyone wants to come along.

This thread has been quiet for some time now, so I am concluding that the the group buy and get together should be dropped this weekend due to lack of interest or other committments.

I will be doing a mini tour myself as I have a friend who is looking for an Omega Seamaster Chronometer and I want to check local pricing. I know already one can be purchased in the U.S. for around $2750.00 U.S. BNIB.

Maybe the long weekend in September would work??

We got together today and it was a small 13 person ( but comfortable ) turnout. Next one should be better as this was a long weekend for a lot of the local and the Seattle fellas.

Here is the GTG report

A TRF - Paneristi GTG in September would be great, it would be a blast to meet up with other Vancouver Ristis and watch enthusiasts also.

How did your shopping go? Did you notice which places had a good selection of Montblanc and Tudor. I am going to be in Van tomorrow and wouldn't mind shopping around.

Not sure about Montblanc watches, but for Tudor...definitely the Montecristo downtown location for the largest selection.

I mostly concentrated on Omega dealers downtown (Omega Boutique store in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, $4,500 - absolutely no discount!; Brinkhaus - An Omega AD and will deal , $4000; Montecristo had some left overs when they handled Omega , but not a Seamaster Chronometer).

It looks like a trusted TRF dealer to me - have quote for BNIB Omega Seamaster Chrono for $2.800 U.S.!!

The wife and I spent an interesting afternoon at a jewellery auction with a lot of Swiss watches for sale. I will post our interesting adventure and comments in the Rolex General Discussion when I get a chance.
