Icon5 Date change on a Datejust

Hey, I bought my first Rolex a couple of weeks ago, it's a two tone datejust 16013.

I was watching it tonight as the time approached 12am, and for some reason it flicked the date from 27 to 28 at 11.59 and not 12. Obviously it's not a big deal, I was just wondering if this is on purpose or there is something wrong with the mechanism.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, couldn't find it on the forum, thanks in advance for any help, Will.

I never heard about this before, that shouldn't be possible to happen. Are you sure? Check it again at midnight and come back
and post when it change. If you can made a video I guess it's easier for the experts to help you.

Jocke is just giving you a hard time OP. the date will change around midnight. Few minutes before, few minutes after. I once had a GMT which changed at 10 minutes after, without fail. No worries, you're fine

Welcome to TRF! Nothing wrong - but your question begs for creative answers!

Hmmm...premature datejustulation...

Jocke??? Don't you have a fix for that?

The date change function has no idea what time it is.
The date change function occurs after 24 rotations of the hour hand.
This winds the date change mechanism and it triggers at full tension.
(Correct me if I'm wrong)
Date change can occur before midnite. After midnite. At midnite.
You would only worry if the date change function doesn't "snap" to the next day as a Rolex date should.

It's funny the most information came from someone who hasn't been around long, it's the same with every forum I've ever been on, some 'veterans' with large post counts thinks that's their proof of their vast knowledge. Then instead of using it to help they feel they have a right to not help those with questions which at some point they wouldn't have known the answer to themselves.
But hey, I thought premature datejustulation was clever cheers

I would consider that watch to be darn close. Close enough for me anyway.

What is the same on all forums is the fact that long term members get bored when someone new asks a question that has been covered many times before and could have been answered with a quick search.

+100 when "the veterans" have answer the same question on and on again so will they get bored. When rookies not want to
spend 5 minutes with the search buttom so will "the veterans" give the lazy guy that answer that maybe give him the idea to
try the search buttom and see what he get.

Back to the subject at hand. Your watch is okay, a couple minutes before, eaxctly at midnight or a couple minutes after is fine. Congratulations on your new DJ and welcome to TRF.

Your watch is fine don't forget its mechanical and not electronic, take my advice get some sleep and stop worrying when the date changes. When you get to my mature age as long as the date has changed by next morning. And whats more important you are still alive to see its changed that's all that matter's.

The right answer came within 3 hrs. from Joe and after that, well, it was a slow news day as they say in the TV-biz and your query gained a lot of traction so...well it got silly.

To add to this, the perceived date change time is solely based on when the watchmaker pressed the hands back on the watch. You rotate the movement until the date changes, stop the movement, and put the hands back on. Some watchmakers may put it on slightly ahead of the change, others right on, while the rest are after. No big issue. A quick search would have listed many threads on this topic.

Normal date change. Have some sleep. It's midnight somewhere in the world and a DJ will be changing date anytime soon.

My Datejust 116200 will change anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes after midnight depending on the particular day. I haven't found any rhyme-or-reason for the difference, but as kieselguhr wrote, it snaps over immediately without hanging. The watch is a brand new random V serial and only worn for three months.

My sub advances the date at 12:06 if its any consolation. I'm usually asleep when it happens so as long as the date is correct when I wake up, I'm content.
