Favorite childhood meal?
I had this yesterday. Loved it so much, we went back again today.
I loved sloppy Joe’s when I was a kid. Absolutely loved. But never see it on a menu. Little dinette in Jersey Shore, NJ. So good. What did you love as a kid, but have not had in years?

My mom’s meals that stood out were her home made all day meatballs and sauce, meatloaf, grilled cheese on rye with tomato & ham and so much more. Damn I miss her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Probably pizza.
I hated sloppy Joes. The taste is nearly horrid and the name is worse. Probably for the parent who doesn’t/can’t cook well. That’s why it’s not widespread now or ever found on food menus. Whenever I saw someone eating them, was someone else in earshot who quickly blurted “bless your mother’s heart.” |

My mom made twice baked potatoes, then my wife got the recipe and made them even better. Once this stupid keto diet is done I’m all over those.

I can barely remember eating anything as a child outside of rice or grits. Occasionally there was that Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. Of those choices, I’ll take the mac n cheese. The story’s got a happy ending though…..I eat good now.

so funny how tastes change and things we loved are now gross and things we hated are now a delicacy lol
my mom used to make this dish that was made with cubed "stew beef" served over white rice with mushrooms and then the beef broth poured over top as a child I hated it and would complain and tell her it was slop or prison food but in recent years I have begged for her to make it for me |

I feel ya. Except I ate whatever I could find rather than being provided something. Local pizza place used to hook me up and give me the lunch special even if I was a few hours late and short of the $4 for two slices and a coke. I loved hotdogs on a slice of bread with a piece of cheese melted over top. I also loved when I would eat at my buddies house and his mom would make hamburger helper. I still love hamburger helper. Loved Sloppy Joes as a kid. I miss my moms fried chicken. She’s still alive but eats healthy now so doesn’t make it anymore. Sad.

Three meals stand out in my memory. My mothers lasagna, meatloaf, and her meatballs were to die for. I used to take them right out of the frying pan before they went into the sauce, made a sandwich with a bit of ketchup, and that would hold me over until dinner time.

Kraft Mac and Cheese. My Mom would make it only when I requested it, and she would put it in a thermos so I could bring it to a pond during the winters where my brothers and I would skate. Flash back to a time when children would play all day away from home and return at night for dinner... I don't know how I survived my childhood!

My mom's spaghetti, which was the midwest Lutheran kind. Creamette spaghetti with home made meatballs, oregano, tomato sauce with other "secret" ingredients.

Minced meat and mushy peas with boiled potatoes covered in mint sauce. Yum.
I also loved haggis with vinegar and chicken with lots of vinegar. I had weird tastes.

Gonna be my moms spaghetti or chili. If push came to shove, I’d probably vote chili. But, that may just be because it’s the only one I know how to make. To make her spaghetti I’m going to need to remember how to can tomato’s.

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! One all time fav! The rest of the week was lettuce sandwiches with mayo on Stroehmann's white bread.... |
