First Pam - 320 or 359? Or...

I want to generally wear with a dark chocolate gator strap, someone told me the 350 dirty dial markings would not look good with brown? Pretty bewildered trying to pick from the incredible selection... Want a basic look but not too plain a watch, like the brushed ss or titanium, sandwich dial, not too much luminescence and face marking, would like see through back... Thoughts appreciated, you guys are great!

Not sure if you are stuck on the luminor, but my first Pam was a 210 and I love it.

I have a 359 and it looks great with almost every color strap imaginable, including dark brown. It's an awesome piece that I would recommend to anyone...

To Iraden's point, if you go Radiomir get a 210. The 359 and 210 are my two personal favorites.

How about a 177 in Titanium? It is a historic model and goes great with many different strap colors. It is also very light and comfortable...

I would go for the 320

In-house auto movement
1950 case with display back
Quick-change strap system
Nice standard strap (brown gator)
Sandwich dial
Two time zones
Date
Seconds reset
Power reserve indicator on back of movement

Thanks guys - keep it coming! My watch guy has been pushing the 320 as well over the 359, though it seems to me they are the same movement and case, one polished and one brushed.

If I brush the 359 do you get the same look, and is that a bad thing to do?

Why do so few of the models come n deployment clasp - is that a cost issue or is it somehow weaker?

Thanks!

Actually they are different movements. 320 uses the P9001, and 359 uses the P9000. Differences shown below.

320 is the right choice here, imho

320:
Movement: automatic mechanical, Panerai P. 9001 calibre, executed entirely by Panerai, 13 ¾ lignes, 7.9 mm thick, 29 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 28,800 alternations/hour. Power reserve 3 days, two barrels. Incabloc® anti-shock device. 227 components.
Functions: hours, minutes, small seconds, date, second time zone, power reserve indicator on the back, seconds reset.

359:
Movement: automatic mechanical, Panerai P. 9000 calibre, executed entirely by Panerai, 13 ¾ lignes, 7.9 mm thick, 28 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 28,800 alternations/hour. Power reserve 3 days, two barrels. Incabloc® anti-shock device.
Functions: hours, minutes, small seconds, date.

Yeah, I go back and forth on the 359, love it, worry about it... 320 is solid. Also agree the 177 is awesome, as I like the brushed look of the titanium.

351 neat as well, but don't know if the brown face dresses up as well. Really ironic that when I first decided to get a panerai I thought the only option was strap color!

Take my word for it, the 359 dresses up extremely well. The "dirty dial" is amazing and paired with the ecru lume gives it a very unique and classic look. There's not that many out there and it's styling has a cool history. There's a reason Panerai uses it as its main watch in ads since it was released.

I took a long time to find the luminor I wanted, and after weighing a TON of options it was clear that the 359 has a beauty and uniqueness unrivaled by most PAM's. If you haven't yet, go try your favorites on...you will know which one speaks more to you. Good luck.

Regarding the 320, since you are debating 320 or 359, it doesn't seem like you "need" the GMT function of the 320. So, instead of the 320, you could consider the 312, which is the same watch sans GMT and sans extra letters on the dial (and cheaper, too, due to the non-GMT movement).

I like arabics on Luminors and there is a historic link, but, I'm not 100% sold on the ecru. But, that's personal taste, and if you like the all-polished 359, go for it (I believe it's the only all-polished 1950s case, so it's unique in the range).

Good luck with the choice! Looking forward to the verdict!

Thanks for the input, guys - just bought a ... 417. How's that for a change of direction?

What size straps should I be buying for a 44 mm like the 417? Thanks!

Of what you have listed I would not think twice about the 320. For me the 359 is just not to my liking but to each their own

Just got the 417 in, really like it. Gave up the exhibition back and sandwich dial for the thinner case manual wind and love the beige lumens on the 417... Makes up for no sandwich, in my mind. Next up either a 320 or a radiomir...

And straps, of course!

320 is a fantastic first PAM. Great movement, simple styling, and the power reserve in back is actually handy while keeping the simplicity of the dial for which PAM is known.

Congrats on the 417. Great choice and I think wears even nicer on the wrist than the other two you've been considering. Wear it in good health.

Thanks guys!

On to buying some straps! The tan one that comes on the 417 is so casual... I went to a supreme court dinner last night and wore a light brown suit just so I could wear the new watch. I was the only non- dark suit in the place!
