Will Rolex do Online Sales ?

Rolex already has an online presence, they just don't sell directly to customers, why would they want to? It would defeat everything that they've built for so long. They may grant their AD's the permission to sell online but most AD's websites are practically a joke or non existent that it would be an even larger investment for the AD's to begin selling online which wouldn't make sense for them. They "supposedly" have 2+ year wait lists for professional series models, all they have to do is call. Just look at the forum for the past week on the "incoming" posts or "I got the call". Again no need, people just purchase their watches without even seeing them or trying them on. People are even giving deposits and paying for watches completely in advance without guarantee of getting the watch in the future.

Doubtful. They like AD's and they dont mind Grey premium. Free marketing for them.

Plus imagine the internet PR/logistics of trying to get a SS model and the checkout cart just says "No inventory. Sold out. Try in 3 years"

With Basel kaput, they can run their own show how they want. Depeding on Covid 2021 issues, Rolex is going to potentially have a model release bonanza in 2021.

If they dont have manufacturing/supply issues that is.

They must be realizing they’re not as special as they think they are and cancelling Basel proves the biz has changed. They need to cater to the new retail reality and tanked sales is a great motivator. It’s also the easiest thing to control and monitor with respect to inventories and AD performance as a ‘lifestyle’ or ambassador center for those who want the support even after sending in your wrist size and packaging preferences online.

(It’s silly we’re even speculating in 2020)

Amazing and sad at the same time, but some of our TS prove Rolex is a laggard in retail.

Here, RUSA had been telling ADs that they would not become “competitors”. Meaning that they wouldn’t be bleeding away direct sales via a direct sales website.

Now that was in 2019BCP. As in Before Coronavirus Pandemic. Almost anything is possible.

BTW, when Omega went DTC on their website my nearby AD dropped the brand. Instead he picked up Tudor as a replacement.
