Submariner or GMT-master ii?

Hi everyone,

Was wondering what people would rather get, the Submariner or the GMT-master ii?

I love the blue/black ceramic bezel and the bracelet of the new GMT-master ii, but I also love how iconic the Submariner is.

What would you rather get and why?

Thanks :)

You need to provide more information as to what you will be using the watch for. Would you use the gmt function? Do you dive? I assume you mean you like the pcls on the gmt when you say "I like the bracelet". It really sems like you prefer the gmt....please dont get the sub just because its "iconic".

GMT I guess, SUBs are easily avail anywhere and when it is time, you can pick one up.

You can dive with the GMT but try not to go below100 meters.

No bad decision here - choose the one you like best.

I'm not a diver, nor would I really use the GMT function to be honest because I don't really travel.

I really like how the middle of the links are polished on the GMT!

If you aren't concerned with functionality and you like the look of the gmt better than your decision is an easy one. Get the gmt :).

I picked the GMT BLNR. These not only IMO look better but will also hold their value much better than the normal Sub.

GMT is iconic, too. Seems that you like it better than the Sub. Go get it.

Basing on this reply of yours, it seems that the BLNR is the watch for you.

The Sub is more iconic, if by that you mean they are everywhere and James Bond wore one in Dr. No. But if you mean has a rich history that gives it an honored place in the watch world then the GMT is every bit as iconic as the Sub. For starters, Rolex innovated the TZ complication used on the GMT Master, not to mention a gajillion other brands. Rolex did not invent the dive watch nor the ET bezel.

Always thought GMT is more useful as a single watch versus sub. You chose wisely.

I love them both. Not a fan of PCLs but the GMT function makes up for it.

Sub! I'm generally not a fan of PCL and you won't find a GMT without them.

GMT BLNR is the best all-rounder SS watch for daily wearing.

Sub for me. The GMT is a fantastic reference but the Glidelock would seal the deal for me.

The GMT has the glide lock or am I confusing that with the adjustable lock that allows for an extra 5mm in either direction?

Perfect world both but which do you prefer? So subjective so only you can decide.

Forget the iconic bit and just try both on. Pick the one that you like. You can go wrong either way. Lots here will have both as they are both fantastic watches!

I bought the GMT II because I liked the two color bezel and I liked the second time zone for when I travel Internationally.

I thought I'd also buy the ceramic Sub. But, when I tried one on, I just didn't see enough difference to justify buying it.

I can't say why, but the GMT was more comfortable on my wrist.

The salesman was wearing the GMT and it just looked so much better than the Sub I was trying.

I thanked him and left.

I have and enjoy both.

The GMT has more functionality

I'm in the minority - Sub for me.

Gmt ii has several things i dont like: 1. Extra hand that is not often used 2. Date adjustment is a pain 3. Bezel is not as useful as the sub for timing, but that's because I dont travel much 4. PCL

I personally think it's overrated due to its "newness", and the premium (pre-owned) over the black bezel GMT is not justified.

Now i'm putting on my flame goggles

Agreed. I was in the OPs predicament when I was looking to purchase one of these references........and the glidelock plus lack of PCL's sealed the deal. I adjust the bracelet several times a day, glidelock is fantastic and I would miss not having it. Sub over GMT for me as an only watch but I do like the GMT and hope to add one in the future.
