Ticking Noise

Hey everyone! Just purchased a Rolex Datejust 2 from an AD yesterday!!!!

Just a quick question. When I put it right up to my hear, I hear a fast ticking noise. Should I be concerned?

or am I paranoid?

I know how concerning it can be when you've spent an absolute fortune on a wrist watch. I don't think it's a silly question to ask.

I had a similar issue with the sound of the tick being inconstant on my new Explorer II. I posted a thread about it here. I only brought my first Rolex a year ago and so have little experience with how mechanical watches function.

I think the fast tick is the escapement mechanism vibrating at 4hz to enable the second hand to glide across the dial.

Enjoy your watch.

Each movement has different sounds, older ones sound different than newer ones. So you should hear a very rapid faint ticking. It's time to worry when the ticking stops under normal wear.
