Vintage GMT Master 1675 (1966)

It has been almost 10 years since i last posted here. My vintage date just was stolen a few years back and i haven't had the heart to come back. i haven't worn a watch since then.

2017 is just around the corner and I have decided to restore and service my GMT Master (pepsi). But before I do, i was hoping for your opinion on whether i should leave it as all original or have some parts replaced (acrylic, bracelet). I shall have it checked to see if there are any parts in the movement that needs to be replaced, but I also want to have the bracelet and acrylic replaced because there are numerous scratches on the acrylic and the bracelet is showing a lot of stretching already. What do you think guys? May I have your opinions on what to do with the watch? i have enclosed a pic without the bracelet. I will upload more pics when i get home.

Sent the bracelet to Michael Young for a service. Do not let him polish it because it will "damage" the crown
New acrylic makes it instantly better.
And glass needs to be replaced when you have it waterproofed again

Thank you for your input. I will definitely go for a new acrylic. Regarding the bracelet, i was thinking of having it replaced, because there is significant stretching already. But maybe I will consider servicing the bracelet.

When I had the pepsi serviced before, the RSC person did mention something about avoiding getting the watch wet. I plan to go to the RSC next week to get the full scale of servicing needed.

Be careful going to RSC, if they replace any parts you will not get them back. I would look into a trusted service person here on TRF.

Definitely try to keep it as original as possible. Acrylic I'd change it but bracelet should be restored, not replaced (and not polished). please post more pics.

Keep it as original as possible. Wear it. Great watch. My bracelet on mine is older and in worse shape than yours.

Thank you for your reply. I will take it to RSC next week to see if the watch has parts that need immediate servicing. I think the last time the watch was serviced was 10 years ago.

Great looking GMT - personally I would remove the bracelet and send to RSC as head only with a request that they supply and fit a replacement bracelet as part of the service. I would then just clean-up the old bracelet and keep it with my other documents/box etc.

All the best for 2017.

I can't read the partial serial but from the looks, everything has already been replaced if it is a 1966, to include the dial, hands and insert.
At a minimum, do not let them replace the matte dial and hands.. at least there is vintage left there.

I also believe you are correct, I think the watch was serviced before because it has a service record already in the RSC. Plus, the bracelet is of a later model I think. I will take your advice and not have them replace the dial and hands. Thank you.

Your serial number indicates that you should have a gilt dial on your GMT. The dial has been replaced with a much later, non-gilt Mark IV dial, as well as the other replacement parts.

Good day springer, what does it mean to be a gilt dial? I am certain this was serviced before, probably 10 years ago. I will check the service history when I go to RSC. Is their a difference between the gilt and mark iv dial?

Would anyone give me an idea how much would a new bracelet cost? the bracelet on the pics i provided is an oyster bracelet i think. would a new oyster bracelet with similar clasp design be north of $ 1k?
