Patek service
This is interesting, I was browsing another forum and saw a reference to Patek service being done by Patek trained watchmakers through an AD. Maybe a way to get it done in a reasonable amount of time, wouldn't that be nice.

My local Patek AD is an authorized service center, the in-house technician is a level 3 watch maker. He claims the average turnaround time for a normal service is about 6-7 weeks. He can service all Patek watches except for perpetual calendars and specific special complications in which he has to ship to Geneva for service/repair.

I know Govberg services watches but don't know if they have Patek certified watchmakers.

I have known about the many ADs having watchmakers than can service Patek, Rolex, etc. However I am curious how their service compares to Patek NYC (HSWA) or official Rolex service centers in NYC or Dallas.
I suspect most Rolex wearers would not mind sending their watches to an independent watchmaker or one working at an AD for routine servicing. However since Patek owners are a different breed, I wonder how many US owners would use a service center other than the HSWA or Patek Geneva (for vintage watches or watches with highly complicated movements) if pricing was the same, but there was a difference in service wait times. |

I'd have no problem sending my watch to Kern or Govberg for service, in fact I'd rather deal with them. Patek is telling you that they are capable so why not?

I believe it depends on the movement. Kern, Govberg, etc. can handle time/date, but complications have to go to Stern or Geneva.
I had a 5980 with sticky date well, sent back to Govberg, they had to send to NY. |

I called the Service center in California and if the watch needs to be taken apart then it still needs to goto New York. He told me (which sounds kinda high) that it takes 3-4 weeks for the estimate and then depending on the service, another 7-8 months. Does this sound accurate to the rest of you?

2014. AD took it in, had a look, then told me Patek wouldn't allow them to work on that movement. Sent it to Stern for a several month visit.
Martin, were you on AP factory visit a couple of summers ago? If so, we shared a car from the airport to Le Brassus. Hope you're well! John |
