If he tells me a piece is totally absolutely untouched and all original I trust him. Then when I get the watch and I verifie the watch is what he says it is, what more can you ask? Untouched vs unpolished... Andrew has referred to many of his unpolished pieces as untouched. it's his choice of words, it's not him trying to be shady.. PHILIPP STAHL: refers to unpolished watches as untouched in his articles. The watch cases all over patina matches.. from the crisp finish between the lugs and super crisp serials, to every other area, they all match in condition. Now if the case let's say had been laser welded to add thick chamfers, you would notice the crisp condition of the lugs don't match the rest of the watch cases worn condition. It might be hard for many to believe that examples this crisp exist still... I paid a premium for this piece because of the condition. Andrew told me examples like this rarely come on the market at any price. If it had been lightly detailed in the past, he would be completed upfront with me.. Other than the condition looking "too good to be true" to some, there is no evidence here of past polishing |

I'm not saying either way on either of them. I just find the differences in the chamfers noteworthy, and that could just be variations from the factory, I would imagine. Through the years, I've bought from Andrew a big red Daytona 6263 full set, double-red Sea-Dweller, Explorer II 1655, and full set red Sub. He's a fantastic seller and super nice guy to boot. I trust his opinion. |

I trust his judgment to, then to actually get this piece and see how crisp even the serials are, I mean every inch of the case looks factory and matches in age. There is so much metal here that there is no way a recut happened. Not even laser weld which can been seen under a loupe and in the right light. I feel between Andrew's knowledge and my own, this watch is nothing but all factory untouched. If I had the slightest suspicion, I would say something. I am not about throwing money out the window. I have seen many variations from year to year when it comes to the chamfers cut on lugs for sure. Sounds like a great line up you have purchased from Andrew. Huge congrats on those pieces and I can only imagine how beautiful they are coming from him. |

the chamfers debate aside, this is a very very nice red sub so congrats on your purchase,
I DO like the unpolished vs untouched distinction thats very on point for this watch since: -crsytal replaced -clasp changed -marks at 6 o' clock on dial consistent with a movement out service so I would expect a service mark on the caseback for sure. but I'm not here to start a debate or add pepper in the least: congrats -> it's still a really beautiful red sub with a super thick case ! |

Here's my early 70's 1675 for comparison too ...
Which has been worn well but either hasn't seen a polishing wheel or saw extremely little of one.
Wonderful looking 1680 and, to me, looks factory cut. Beautiful. Andrew. |

This thread has turned into insanity. I really don't want to have my watch ripped apart any longer. I also shouldn't have to defend myself or Andrews integrity as a trusted dealer for years. Boy have I learned my lesson about future incomings. Thank you for the support and thanks to those of you for the kind words as well in this thread. Mods, feel free to lock this thread and throw away the key.. |

personally I would welcome comments from other members no matter what. No need to be offended, we are discussing a watch. I would prefer honest opinions over "congrats" and "beautiful". If I feel those "other" opinions have no merit I simply ignore them, but they may give reason to investigate further. The choice would be mine...

If a subject/discussion comes up that may increase the knowledge base here (or for the vintage crowd in general), I see that as a good thing. No need to get offended if/when folks raise valid questions IMO. To do so may reveal the true intent of such a post in the first place (ego-stroking vs. simply sharing a cool piece with like-minded enthusiasts). Plus, if I just spent a substantial sum on a piece and something was potentially "off", I'd want to know about it. That said, I think there are tactful and less-tactful ways of raising those questions/concerns. OP - I saw the pics before you took them down. Great piece. Wear it with pride and joy. |

The main argument from one untactful "member" in particular was that the watch case has been polished. That is not true. I do love how some who don't even have the watch in hand are experts of its history. Based on a couple iPhone pics I posted. I even messaged this member asking for some detailed to back up his statment and guess what? Nothing.. It's easy for people to make comments but then to not even back em up? It's very common for these folded link 9315 bracelets to get scratched up when removing links at the jewelers because you have to use pliars to bend the metal back, so links get scratched and they get touched up.. I really could care less that the links have been lightly touched up over the years, find me one that hasn't? The clasp which is the most important part containing the cornet is completely crisp and untouched. I have never seen a 71 clasp more crisp. Obviously the crystal was replaced with superdome, it's a personal preference and I like it like that.. I also hope the watch has had a movement service in all this time. Non of that stuff makes it less of a watch. I have seen many ABC jobs over the years and I know what they look like. There are a couple members that have purposely Caused trouble on my threads in the past because they must have a problem with me and have an axe to grind. At the end of the day, I wasn't asking if the watch had been polished, I was just sharing a joyful incoming. All it was turning into was an argument and attacks. I didn't want to keep arguing about something I know to be 100% true just because 2 members are making very bold statements when they are just generally clueless. |
