5270 for me.

Here are a few pics of my former 5270g-019 blue dial 3rd series (no chin) - gone but not forgotten (its brother, the 5270r-001 replaced it).

5270R is a beauty but as you know must be bought right. I tried it on about a year ago and was blown away. The other 5270s with the chin or the first generation unfortunately don't do it for me personally. They just got it right with this dial configuration. If this would've come out initially I believe the 5270 would be more sought after.

But I don't understand why one would prefer a 5270 above a smith

I saw the guy and I saw his watches
An R.W. Smith is much more interesting

Looks like I'm the only one voting for the smith (1 versus 12 votes)
Could it be a lot of us don't understand an RW Smith???

The 5270 is just aesthetically more pleasing!!!

The Roger Smith is in another league, literally not comparable.

This is like when there is a poll between a Rolex and a PP and people choose the Rolex. Sure, pick what you like, but they are not on the same level at all.

I'll take the PP any day of the week over R.S ..I don't get R.S watches. IMO, the R.S movement looks plain and ugly.

I would take the 5270. I really do appreciate Roger smiths contributions to watchmaking and the painstaking detail he puts into his work. I just don't favor the overall aesthetic. If I could afford a high end independent it would be a Journe or Voutilainen.

Hard to say, prefer the style of the 5270, especially the blue dial, of course I get that one is made in "large" numbers while the other is made "Dufour" style, but can't say the style really appeals to me.
So for these 2 I would take the PP.
If it was the Smith 4 then it would be my choice, but not this one to be honest.

In any case both are incredible watches in their own right, just one is too dressy for my taste.

The poll is kind of interesting and yes of course you can't really compare the manufacture process of the 2 when the RWS is literally made by hand from start to finish. Seeing how a case is made versus industrial forging of cases is just mind blowing! It shows how strong the PP brand actually is because RWS is the purest form of haute horology but aestheticas won the day. Maybe the investment value of the watch isn't as important as we thought because the RWS would certainly appreciate more in value. If he makes 15 watches a year at an average vale of £125 000 that's a turnover of £1.8 milo and then he has expenses etc. Not a huge amount. Of course you can buy a Brioni suit off the rack but there will always be something special in having a suit tailored. So viva la Patek, I still haven't decided and yes Kari is an option!
