Ugh I really want this Cartier but it’s quartz

My vintage Cartier dealer offered me this vintage Cartier Santos Galbee with ice blue dial which is stunning but whats throwing me off is that its Quartz. Only Quartz watches I have are from a few microbrands but it feels like quartz from a high end brand of watches is kinda ehh. All my high end watches are automatic.

Plus I have a weird fear of eventually having to find a watch maker to install a new battery in 3 years. Should this be a deal breaker?

Anyone have any quartz Cartier’s?

My wife has a midsize Galbee. Sometimes, I go put it on, and even hide it under my sleeve and go to the grocery store or to do school pick-up. But I find myself feeling an overwhelming sense of shame every time. Not over being the man who wears his wife's watch, but over it being quartz...

That is cool looking, though. I usually hate logo pattern dials, but this one really works for some reason.

Something about paying thousands of dollars then having to find a quality watch maker every 2-3 years to change the battery seems a bit inconvenient

If it fits you and you like it. Get it. You can be a snob with your other watches.

Do Cartier quartz watched need the battery to be replaced by their service centers?

PP and AP and VC also do a full range of quartz watches. Getting a battery change every few years is easy compared to the convenience of never having to set the time (if HAQ), and it's a good time to get new seals and pressure test. I wear a GS quartz most days and it'll be due a battery change soon after three years (the double tick will tell me for sure a couple weeks ahead of time). In that three years it has gained six seconds.

Cartier makes a bunch of quartz watches and if you like it, then get it. It’s likely cheaper because it’s a quartz anyway.

That said, as you go up the food chain, I’d be less likely to buy quartz — even though their largely ladies watches.

Opinion is subjective. My vintage Carree wears small yet has a presence to it and is wonderful on the wrist

Can't speak for some of the newer ones (like the solar) but the older ones shouldn't. Many watchmakers should be able to, but for best peace of mind, try the watchmaker at any Cartier AD. Back then it was probably a barely modified stock ETA, no?

This is right of the Cartier website. I would think a qualified watch technician could change the battery too.

To change a battery, take your watch to a Cartier After-Sales Service at any Cartier boutique or at an authorised dealer.

As part of the battery changing service, and as required by the Cartier guarantee whenever a watch is opened, the Cartier technician will also test the water-resistance of your watch

Great looking watch and if it is for a fair price, why not get it? The only Automatic watch snobbery is a phase many go through and many never get out of. Plenty of great watches out there in either quartz, automatic or manual wind. Have some fun, enjoy all types of watches. Let us know what you decide.

Watches stand on their own for different aspects - aesthetic, dial, case, heritage, movement, hype, etc. I'd wear that piece without a second thought.

I'm put off by quartz too, but the need for a battery change alone shouldn't be a deterrent.

I've had this done at a Cartier boutique for my wife's watches. Unless there's been a change in policy, Cartier can usually do it while you wait. The price, as I recall, was surprisingly reasonable (but I don't remember the amount; pretty sure it was less than $100).

And any reasonably competent watchmaker should be able to change the battery as well.

Cartier is one of the few higher end brands Id buy a quartz in without a second though.
Id of course prefer an auto but there are always exceptions.

I have a Tank Francaise automatic. When Cartier introduced their Tank SolarBeat I was fortunate to secure one. What intrigued me was the battery is good for 16 years. As the name says, it is powered by any light, indoors or outside. I have a few other quartz watches. Depending on the brand of battery, you could get 5-6 years.
