This thread sure has some hang-time.

Interestingly, going back to the original poster, one of his comments
had to do with the secondary market.

One of the oft-repeated statements is that the less popular rolexes
tend to be collectible down the road because there aren't many of
them made. That was the case with the early daytonas, for example.

So an early YMII or milgauss might be way more valuable in 20 years
than a more common reference.

Now for me, in addition to the YMII and milgauss, I used to never
look twice at a DD, but recently it's starting to grow on me, in white
gold or Pt.

I used to think the milgausse looked like a cheap kids watch. Now the more I look at them I appreciate the subtleties of that watch, and I'd like to have one someday. One thing I've learnt over the years is tastes change..what you hated as a kid can become a favourite as you mature.

There isn't a rolex on this planet I wouldn't gratefully accept as a gift!

For me, the YM2 or anything in YG. I am just not a fan of too much YG but some models look great when paired with leather bands.

It's funny seeing all the differences in opinion. That's what give us so many options! I have looked at the SS/black dial SM for years and always knew it would be my first Rolex. Last week when I went looking to finally pull the trigger I ended up getting a YM1. For me, it still has the sport look of the SM but is a little more refined which works better IMHO when dressing up every day for work. Also, any given meeting there are at least two or more SMs in the room. I didn't want a "me too" Rolex so the YM worked out perfectly. Similar enough I love the look but different enough to stand out from the group. I will still end up with the SS SM some day

I don't like any rolexes. It's why I'm here hrs on end, and have owned about a dozen or so of them.... I don't get what good this thread did. My only rolex model that I still own was mentioned so much, after dinner I'm going for a walk and handing it over to the first pretty thing I see. Thanks everyone

I don't like the Milgauss purely for the lightning bolt which makes it look like a toy in my opinion. The Explorer II was one that I thought I would love but really didn't like it after I put it on my wrist. Something about it makes it look cheap.

Surprised at all the un-love for the Yachtmaster. I kind of liked that one but it was more than I wanted to spend.

...and the Submariner line - not because I don't like the watch, but because its the only Rolex I see on a regular basis. There are just too many (plus all the fakes) out there.

Any esp sports with yellow gold, diamonds/stones etc. Makes the watch look gaudy in my opinion. Some of the datejusts esp ladies look ok in 2-tone but not the sports models at all. WG PT is fine.

Anybody interested in buying my Milgauss GV on the cheap? Lol. I am not offended by the dislike for the watch. Variety is the spice of life and each Rolex is unique in its own way. Cheers!
