To have my AP ROO polish?

I have got my AP for more than 5 yrs.

There are some scratches on the bezel and I was thinking to send it back to AP to have it polished for sgd 800+

However, it might be scratched again due to wear. Thus, I am thinking if I should proceed to have it polished.

Any comments are appreciated.

thx a lot

cheers

Looks like you are scr***d either way :))
Only one piece of advice on this is if you are going to get it polished only do the top. If there are scratches More in the side parts of the bezel polishing it will mean the bezel will loose its symmetry and that looks really bad (I know from experience on this one).

After the scratch is before the scratch.....
So AP might polish your bezel but you can count the hours when the first cratch can be seen on the just renewed bezel
I would leave it as it is and would think about that if you have to send your watch to AP due to a technical problem.

Any pics of current condition ?

Ultimately it’s your call, but remember it can only be polished a finite number of times.

If AP polish it, you won’t have issues with symmetry

Sure, they do a great job but as good as it can be you will loose the sharpness of the edges. At least a little and personally I would keep the bezel in its first condition as long as possible.

If the scratches bother you, have it polished - but only by AP...don’t let anyone else touch it!

If you have to have it polished again and lose sharpness at the edges, have the bezel replaced.

I too have a well loved 6 year old ROO that will need a polish, but I plan to get that done when I send it for service.

Since you wear it and therefore have scratches, I’d suggest just wearing it for now. You’ll probably need movement service in the next few years and that’s when I’d consider a light polish.

I was told no polish on watches out of warranty, you need to do full service to get the watch polished, that was in the US not sure in Singapore.

That RO is cool period. I almost wish my was as scuffed. Mine is embarrassingly scratch free compared to how much stretch the bracelet has. Way to babied...

I would never refinish any of my pieces. AP I would just buy a replacement bezel and refinished bezel always look refinished and I think RO's look great with some daily wear and tear!

if AP does it you probably couldn't tell vs a new one. 99% of bad polish jobs are not AP's work. I venture to say the majority of second hand watches floating around have non AP polish jobs and then people think thats how a polish looks.

You have a couple of polishes before the lines are ruined and AP will tell you if they can polish it or not. If they cant they will sell you a new bezel.... so whats the issue?

when my RO goes in for service its absolutely getting polished. Im at 4+ years so far, and no immediate plans to send it in but whenever it goes its getting done and it really doesnt even need it but its going to look brand new when i get it back. If i need a new bezel 3 services from now/ 20+ years from now... fine. im ok with that. I may request bezel only/no case polish at some point since the case needs it far less

who wants to wait months for a watch to get serviced and then get a beat up watch back when they are finally done?

Agreed, only let AP do this, nobody else, or it will be ruined. As for the refinishing, which is a mix of polishing and brushing, it rather depends upon how deep the scratches are, because to remove them completely they will need to remove metal until the surface is blemish free.

You really need to send it to AP and get their advice.

Simply not true. I have seen quite a few RO/ROOs coming back from the motherland and anyone knowledgeable can always tell a polished piece from a non-polished piece. Even a light polish will impact the lines that define a RO. But fair enough, not everone can tell.

At the end of the day what matters is if a scratch/multiple scratches bother you more than a sharp case.

I am kind of a heretic comes to this issue because I cannot stand a scratched up watch. I would have this polished out. And I have on my AP. You are really pretty tough on watch and yes it will get scratched again. There is definitely a pattern

This is the curse of the Royal Oak. Unlike a Rolex it doesn’t age well. The finish is so fine and exacting. But BEWARE. Screw thIs up by a bad refinish and it’s new bezel time. Same for Patek.

I have a VC Overseas which so far is aging gracefully despite its similar level of finish.

Hi. Understand that the max polishing for the AP bracelet is three times.

i think the website says 3-5... so it probably depends. I think they are referring mostly to the case. A bezel could be less and it depends on how deep scratches are, probably what metal (ss/gold, platinum) etc.

A bezel replacement isn't cheap but, IMO, its reasonable
