Or another direction is to look at 1955 year watches.
Should be within budget even with service thrown in. That way you can get the new or used out of equation. |

This is what i would like to suggest. Its for your father and he always love watches so why not get him something that only belong to him. He only turn 60 once so i'd say get him something bnib. For 6k i suggest you get him bnib 116300. For the dial option you should talk with your brother. Dont forget to post pics. I love this kind of gesture btw. |

I would go Explorer I. You can get a brand new one for under 6k on here. Even a new Sub C ND for just above 6.

I would have a problem accepting a gift that expensive. Just the thought would be enough for me.Good luck

With age i'm sure his forearms arent what they used to be.
A DateJust would probably suit him best, and yeah mom would probably have his taste nailed down by now. Show her some pictures of various models. Although I prefer dealing with AD's personally, this i believe is a scenario the trusted sellers of this forum would be ideal for. You can tell your father you got the watch from "a guy you know" while the watch comes with box, warranty and papers, it obviously wont be from an "expensive" authorized dealer. He will think you got it at "fallen off the truck" prices and not only be proud of you but also your bartering network. |

I would buy a brand new Datejust from one of our trusted sellers. I'd recommend Takuya (free advertising). You can find plain bezel one for under 6K. Also, ask if you can have your father's name on the warranty card.
Ref. models 116200 (under 5.5k) or 116234 (lil over 6k) |

Exp1, DJ, DJII and Sub are all within your budget. Great gesture!

I'd make sure your assumptions are correct first. He might just like Omega. You said he wants a high end watch but refuses to buy because he doesn't want to spend the money, now if I was window shopping only without any plans of buying sky's the limit, I'd look at Pateks even though my wife would kill me if I bought one. I would get him the new watch that he has talked about rather that a preowned piece that he hasn't mentioned.

Good point. I think I'll have my brother do some covert ops to find out what he likes as he lives near them and I'm across the country. I'll take care of the purchasing since I have discovered this great forum and its trusted sellers. Hopefully I'll have some "incoming" pics for you guys in the next few months. |

My father and his siblings got my grandfather an Omega for his 60th so it's not out of left field. My brother is wearing that watch now. I love the idea of gifting something that will last forever and be passed down for generations.

I would suggest a bnib as well for a gift especially a really special birthday, even of it means a lesser watch. WISs will talk about movement and history, etc, but a "normal" person would much more enjoy the initial impact of new Rolex, any new Rolex.

My father loves his 116613LB that I got used for about 50% of retail. Buying new for someone else makes as much sense as buying new for yourself.

An Omega at 60 will be sort of tradition, he did it with his father and you can do it now with him. A new Speedmaster Pro or an Aqua Terra (if you're worried about swimming) are two great choices within your budget especially if you buy BNIB from a trusted seller. The Omega will also have more meaning by linking it to the time he bought his father an Omega. Good decision in sending your brother to do some covert ops, at least you can get a specific model in mind. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
