$28k estimate to address an overbite, with no guarantees of long term success....
there's money in teeth, my friends.

Didn't seem to bother Sammy Davis Jr or the former first lady.

I had orthodonture as a youngster (metal braces/head gear/retainer) and it worked out well despite some minor shifting in my later adult years.
Cosmetic surgery and teeth straightening/whitening have become major growth industries over the past several years. There's big money to be made catering to aging vanities and countless self-esteem issues. |

We dropped about 50K on my wife's teeth over about 10 years. In the end it did not work and she had to get a partial anyways. I had a bunch of work done in my 20's when I was self employed and paid cash (I did not insure myself back then). None of those procedures lasted....I take good care of my teeth. Regular cleanings, brush and floss and so on.
Sorry to those of you who work in the field, but those experiences have really turned me off. Had too many bad and costly experiences with dentistry. I will say my current dentist is very solid and only suggests work that is necessary. I have been happy with him and his office these last few years. Wife goes to him as well. Sorry about that bill CJ, hope it works out for you.

You may want to get an estimate from a female dentist. I hear they don't get paid as much.

Wow, that's a lot. I hope you're able to find a safe alternative if anything. As suggested above, shop around and see

Wow, that's expensive. What about the programs you see on TV, where they send you these plastic mouth things each month until your teeth are straight? My top row teeth are perfect, but my bottom row is a bit wonky and have thought about trying it out. Twenty-eight grand sounds really expansive to me.

I thought braces were typically under $10,000 -- even in the world's most expensive healthcare market (USA)

Both my folks have spent time across our southern border getting their teeth fixed. They swear by it. And saved literally tens of thousands.

Had braces as a kid. I’m 45 now and my teeth are good. My daughter has had them on for almost 2 years. Cost me a fortune

Make sure you see a certified specialist in orthodontics.
If you wear your retainer after, teeth should not move. Not sure why no 'guarantee of success'. Unless your bite discrepancy is so severe that braces alone is not sufficient. Then surgery will be required in conjunction with braces. Or are you doing this to treat joint/ facial pain? Then definitely no guarantee. Not sure about pricing in your area. Does it include some veneers after? Get a second opinion for 'success' and pricing. |

IMO, overbite is not a commonly seen reason for grinding.
People with perfectly aligned teeth also grinds. Get the braces for esthetics, everything else is secondary IMO. |
