Incoming, finally!

TLDR: Got a White Dial Daytona, see pics. :)

Well, this one has been by far the longest hunt ever for a watch (for me).

I have been trying to get one since 2016 but as we all know, AD's have a tough job of deciding who gets to take one home out of the thousands of people that drop in.

2017 I met a friend of a friend with a Patek Aquanaut and for the first time seeing it in the metal, the penny dropped and I knew I would get one of those one day, but after the Daytona.
So went into an AD that all I had bought from them was watch winder, and inquired about a Daytona, just to get on the list, don't care how long it takes. Nope no go. I even tried for the White gold Oyster flex.

Went home deflated.

The next year some big stuff happened in life and I decided "Screw it, while I wait for the Daytona to magically drop out of the sky, I will buy the Aquanaut."
Early 2018 went into the same AD and she remembered me and I asked if I could order an Aquanaut. "Of course, lets process the down payment and you should have the watch in about 12 months"

Freaking sweet! Now at this time the Aquanaut was still out of favor and selling for a little under retail, but I didn't care, as with all my watches, I want the watch not the value in it.
I left my AD be and about 11 months later just dropped by to say Hi and ask if things were still on track for the Patek and she said "I am not sure, but fingers crossed we will get one soon"

No worries, then a week later get a text from her "Your Patek is here. :)"

Holy smokes.. awesome ... 2019 march, bought the 5167 and have loved it.

So now I have been dropping into the AD every now and then (once every six months) inquiring around getting another sports watch, but from Rolex. Maybe a BLRO as the Pepsi back in the day pushed me to getting the 116710LN.

Nope, no good. No worries, I'll keep on waiting it out.

Fast forward to 2021 about a month before our first born arrived, stopped by and asked the AD, "Is there any possibility to get a special watch as a birth year watch for our little one?" "I would love a Daytona of course as you know"

Hmmm, I can get you a Batman/Batgirl (choose the bracelet) in about a month, and after thinking a few minutes, I said "Thanks so much, but I don't really love love the BLNR and I know it's difficult piece for others to get, so with out loving it I feel bad just buying it."
Now bare in mind I have been wearing my 5167 every time I see them and they know I havent sold it even though the prices are insane. I just love it.

"Let me introduce you to the owner"
So I meet him and we hit it off, and I explain the whole story and he even asks "Where did you get the Aquanaut?" "Here! :D", "Maybe we should buy it back from you... it's a pain to get those now! *jokingly* "
"Haha never, I love it"

Fast forward a few months having met the owner a few times and then asked, could I maybe squeeze in a Daytona before the end of the year as a birth year watch for the little one?
"Sure, we will sort it out!"

Now at the time I sort of didn't believe him, maybe he's just saying it and would forget.

Nope, saw him on Thursday and boom.... here's a watch for you :D

I was and still am in shock and could hug the guy as I know I am just a small fish to him, but still went out of his way to help me out :)

Needless to say, I will not purchase another watch anywhere but this guy now :D

Now pics...

That's an awesome story...I wish I was as lucky with the 5167. I indicated I was looking for one with a dealer back in 2018, he told me it shouldn't be a problem and I should have it in 6 months. Ff 6 months and the watch got super hot/trendy, and I'm still waiting for the call lol.

Luckily in the interim I did source a ceramic Daytona ...but still waiting on that 5167 :)

Congratulation! Great stories and I guess being patient pays off. I also notice that a good AD always try their best to allocate the watch you want to mark an occasion or milestone in life.

My AD just allocated me a Daytona Panda early to help celebrate an up coming 50th birthday next year.

Great Story. I think this an example someone who truly loves horology and AD sensed it and sold you the watch:) Congrats on watch and newborn!

Thanks everyone!
Glad you guys appreciated the story.

Think it was need to share so we don’t have JUST threads on AD antics, investment prices, can I wear it in the sauna while playing golf, Etc :D

Also to give hope to those who are just keeping persistent.

I will say I have an advantage of being in a smaller city in the world. I do not envy the watch guys that live in London, New York etc etc

Congratulations and I too love your journey. I was also fortunate enough to get this piece from my amazing AD after a relatively short wait-completely shocked but it was all about the relationship not the spend in my case…
Enjoy!
