Michael Young watch service?

I have a ladies datejust that needs the band repaired, the watch also needs to be serviced, has anyone had their watch serviced there and if so how did it turn out?

Thanks!

I have had two bands serviced by MY, both turned out really nice.

Cheers,
Rick

Does anyone have experience with his watch service ? It would be easier to send him the entire watch rather than just the bracełt

While MY does an excellent job at repairing bracelets, and probably your watch movements as well, keep in mind you're taking a risk sending the watch there and back as you "import" a Rolex into the US of A, which is prohibited. Most people have no problems receiving a Rolex by declaring them as "....", but you'll be out of a watch if yours is intercepted by US Custom. MY will not be responsible for it.

How recent is your information? My understanding is that the importation ban is over:

A well earned loss for RUSA.

Excellent point. I will have the actual watch serviced in Florida by Ric.

My understanding is that this is no longer an issue

MY does a great job of repairing bracelets!! I had my Mark II serviced and it wasn't up to the standard I expected; it was on the other hand an Omega from 1969. It went back one time for correction and came back no different from when it left. I won't have him service anymore of my watches. I can't tell what the issue is but the shipping charges are too great in case of need for a return. Frankly unless the job is something that RSC won't do there is no advantage to having him service as RSC provides an internationally accepted card with the service which can be used for follow-up.

Usually you do a temporary export when sending stuff abroad for repair etc. This is standard in any country. Just contact customs and fill in the forms. The only thing you are "importing" is the upgrade of what you sent, you might have to pay customs on the increased value of the goods.

If you are in the States just get a localised Rolex specialist to do it . Obviously the band would be better sent to Michael , or myself (uk) but too much hassle for the whole watch !

Sure it would be "easy".

Still, you are shipping a relatively expensive product halfway around the world. More local servicing can put it back on your wrist (with a strap) way before the, sometimes months long wait for it to come back from MY.

Also, insurance from the USA to an overseas location is limited to $2500 unless you have a tax ID number.

I agree with Larry, have the watch serviced locally within the USA.

Mickeal can be pleasant to deal with but also a lot of trouble...

First he service for me a vintage datejust, everything went smooth and it took 5 weeks from the day i sent it to the day i got it back. The work was perfect, the polishing of the watch the regulation of the movement, etc etc

But second deal i sent him an old tudor sold a year ago. He just had to service the movement as i wanted to keep everything untouch. It took him 6 months for the whole process, he broke the stem ans asked me to find him a new one, pretty easy to do as it's ETA, but he could have done that himself. He stop replying for 2 months at one point.

When i finally received the watch the watch the hands weren't even aligned at 12 so i had to service it a second time by my french watchsmith who told me the watch wasn't regulated at all and that he found dust inside it...

I think that you should stick with bracelet with MY but for service there is many people who can do a better job.

Just my opinion, maybe it was just bad luck.

I agree. I would not have him service a movement. His niche is old bracelets.

i just got a vintage rivet expansion oyster bracelet back from MY and he did a beautiful job. everything is tight and bright with new springs, pins, and a light polish. it's ready for another 54 years of service.

i was worried about sending my band overseas, but MY had good communication through the process. i cant speak to his watch repair skills, but he did for my band what rolex refused to do...repair it, and at a very good price.

Michael's shop does very good restoration of stretched Rolex bands, as often noted on this forum. However, do NOT let them polish your band. They all but ruined a 93150 Sub bracelet of mine with a very aggressive polish, virtually removing the crown on the clasp. They're good for bracelet restoration, but I'm not sure I'd use for anything else. That's been my experience anyway.

To add another data point, MY repaired my oyster bracelet recently. I got it back about 5 weeks ago. Smooth transaction all the way through.
