That number would be a date stamp. The model number for the bracelet that went with that clasp was stamped on the last bracelet link.

It is not correct for your watch and probably came off an Oyster bracelet.

The early Swiss Jubilees were stamped with the model number on the clasp - i.e. 6251 or 6252.

The 62510/62523 Jubilees replaced the 6251/6252 Jubilees during the late 1970s.

So is this a newer clasp than the 62510/62523? Is there a way to date it?

As springer said, the clasp in your photo has the date stamped right on it (1971). It is older than what you're looking for (and probably for an oyster 7836?).

I have this one for sale which could be substituted for what you need (it is NOT exactly what you're looking for, however). It came from a Two tone USA-made jubilee.

You might put up a want to buy ad here, and also use the search function on eBay. Be careful and post pics here before buying if you find something on eBay; one of us can help you out.
