Where on the wrist...
Do you wear your watch?
I ask for two reasons: out of personal curiosity; and to promote discussion and self-exploration for others. I recently noticed from countless photos on TRF that a significant number of people wear their watches much closer to the back of the hand than I do for example. At first I thought 'Geez that is so strange why are people doing to their wrists? That can't be comfortable. ' But then I thought about it a little more and I think I found a perfectly reasonable explanation. (hint: it's not simply a matter of different strokes for folks or courses for horses) My theory is this: generally speaking, I think people are wearing their watches on the narrowest part of their arms. For people like me who are bony and skinny, the narrowest part is to to left of my ulna. Others who may have arms that are more beefy, the narrowest part may be on the other side of the ulna closer to the hand. I know it would be very easy to dismiss this whole idea as nothing more than personal preference but I would encourage everyone to give the theory some thought. Posted below is a pic of my arm with watch where I wear it. |

I wear mine like you do. Above the bone and not flopping at my wrist.

Low towards the wrist. Somewhat snug, so it doesn't slide back and forth.

i wear mine loose like a bracelet so it slides (like Micheal Bay, Lloyd Bridges, Prince Harry, Jean-Claude Killy, Arnold Palmer, & other Rolex wearers/endorsers).
And I don't mind if people don't wear them on their hands like a bracelet. Why would I care ;)

High on the wrist, above the wrist bone.

I think it has to do with wrist shape and arm mass. I have a flat wrist where the watch just sits perfectly. Above wrist bone.

Like sagging pants, it seems that it's become more and more stylish to wear a watch loose and by the hand, but, as a tool, it doesn't really make a ton of sense to impede the wrist or dig into the hand.
I wear mine exactly like this Rolex ad. High and tight: |

This is what it would look like if I wore it closer to the hand. Not comfortable and not anatomically sustainable. Not to mention I would have to really crank I down to get it to stay there. I do think the shape of people's forearms and wrists are the primary drivers of where people find it to be comfortable.

Just above the bone, so I can bend my hand back without stabbing myself with the crown.

here on my wrist.....
in terms of how tight...i can easily fit a finger between clasp and wrist. I don't wear my watches super tight and like it to slide a bit |
