No one is forcing anyone to buy here from a trusted (longtime seller)seller or from someone who is new. It is(and has always been)up to the prospective buyer to do his or her homework and then make a choice. If you are not comfortable with the deal then it's always best to walk away...another one will come a long shortly!!!

Dude, you should not be allowed around power tools.
And for the right price I would buy your sub in a second.

To the OP,

I think your main point is pretty weak and borders on paranoya.

The ADs are really the ones with the attempted monopoly (at the direction of Rolex). But that's business. Rolex is a private company and they can set up their distribution chain anyway they'd like.

As for the used market...what's your point?

The same levels exist in used cars, furniture, etc.
It constitutes a "free market". You have freedom of choice, with various levels of risk. And that risk goes both ways (I'm thinking back to the post of the Brit that invited a buyer into his home and nearly lost his life were it not for pure luck).

I for one am grateful for the "trusted sellers". Without them I would have to buy from an AD. Nothing would change my policy regarding buying expensive items from strangers on the net.

That Brit, I'm pretty sure was Mike-UK....a scammer. The story was likely completely made up. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Buyer confidence goes a long way and IMO I will pay a little extra for.

Its also the service if you will. There has been many accounts where some of the trusted sellers have gone out of their way to accommondate the buyer, even driving a few hundred miles one way to do a face to face.

Nope it was not Mike. This gentleman got hot coffee thrown in his face and then was beat down in his own kitchen. Lucky for him his contractor came back from lunch at that exact moment and saved his arse.

I wouldn't buy from you Raf. Your reputation is without question, but I'd be afraid of the "freebies" that you'd throw in with the watch!!!

An important part of the deal is "buying the seller".
I never sell anything, but I think I'd do fine because I can clearly prove who I am. Actually knowing who you are dealing with and how to find them if there is a problem is everything.
The bassethounds example is interesting in that no one knew his real home or business address, possibly his real name? Someone went to his home and didnt know his address. Strange but true. Buying or selling from him was a risk.
I am an Ivy League University professor. You can look me up on my faculty website, email me at the university email, call my administrative assistant to speak with me, etc.
If I send you specific photos you request from my work, etc, what more could you want? What's the likelihood of my disappearing into the wind a la Tristan?
Zero. If there was a problem, you can always find me, sue me, etc.
The role of vetting a buyer or seller does not belong to the mods, but with you and you alone.
Anyone can post here for a year, make 1000 posts, sell some straps, and than con several people on the sale of a Daytona or 2. What stops that is your own vetting process.

True, there are ways to ease the buyers worries.

I think you have some very good points Rolex116520

I have only bought one watch from a trusted seller and havent sold anything yet, How I would get on is a diffrent matter if I were to try something. I have tried to keep up with everything on here and log in most days (even if i dont contribute quite as much as some ) You could say I am hooked

However with the scams etc it is less likely that someone would buy from a fairly new / inactive member, but thats not too say if your homework is done and refrences are checked you wouldnt buy form someone like this. If I was selling I do have a business that is registered with companies house and a VAT number so I could checked out I suppose

Also the point about the lack of sellers in the EU is ture, I know there would be a market in the UK this is something I have given some thought too as well

I personally do not believe that the Moderators would be interested in your proposal whatsoever. Stevo is nice enough to provide us with a venue for buying/selling, but it is up to us (collectively) to be wary of a particular transaction. I don't believe that Stevo would be interested in ANY liability (perceived or real) from the sales forum.

In Utopia a scam-free sales forum would be nice. In reality, it is just not going to happen. Does that mean that a person cannot make sound purchases off the boards?? I am proof that it CAN be done from power sellers, and private individuals as well. I guess I have bought probably 15 Rolex watches off these boards. The only Rolex I have purchased from an AD was my DeepSea, and it will be my last. Even my 116619 white gold blue sub was purchased off TRF at a significant discount.

I was looking at the sawzall jumping all around, it would be tragic if the Rolex was damaged by it.

Another example why we buy ONLY from trusted sellers here in TRF and continue to.

All of trusted sellers here are top notch!

I think I'd have a hard time selling here. I've been here awhile and have a few posts, but I'm not a flipper. Also I'm not a pledge member nor am I part of the inner sanctum. Oh well, looks like I'm stuck with a Rolex. Life is tough.
