Grand National

Well as most UK members and many internationals will know tomorrow is Grand National day.

I've been out of the game for a few years now but worked for many years in racing and had a few rides "over the sticks" (amateur only due to 6'3" making it a little difficult to make the weight!)

I'm the one in the black colours!

The National is the biggest betting event of the year with most people having a little flutter, even those who wouldn't dream of gambling the rest of the year.

I'll be shouting for Big Fella Thanks. So what's your pick for this year?

we didn't get those over here!

Since the horse race has been around since 1836 I think I'm safe to say it came first!

Cool man.

Horses have never really been my thing (unless it's the steel horses on the Isle of Mann).

Hi Mark,

I know nothing about horses, but since you are the horse expert, I'll put a tenner on Big Fella Thanks, thanks.

I'll have a look in the paper tomorrow & probably make a decision then after I studied some form

Few years back when I was motorbiking it in to work - on the friday b4 the 'national I had to leave the bike at home & get the train. On the train - I was reading the metro (free newspaper) & there was an interview with ginger mccain who was the trainer who trained Red Rum. That year his horse was Amberleigh House. Thought no more about it. Few hours later one of the secretaries was doing a sweep stake for the national - £2 a go so with Amberleigh house in my head - I chose it. The next day my brother in law calls me from the bookies - he's there & do I want a horse on - yeah ok stick a tenner on amberleigh house.

Horse came in 1st at 16/1. Oh yes .... !! Having said that - never won since

Mary Hinge used to be in training with Mary Reveley and caused a bit off fuss. The best name ever was Wear The Fox Hat! They got away with it for a few runs but then some humourless bugger at Weatherbys made the owners change its name.

I really hope there's not a linch mob out to get me at 1640 tomorrow after you've all done your cash on my 'tip'!

Sorry, guys! I told you not to listen to me!

Where was Onikage?! That bugger had the first and the fifth but didn't say anything 'til two minutes before the off! AND then only on his post about whether or not to wear a Rolex to an interview!... Grrrr... Shows what I know, eh!
