I have seen some gold and TT Rolexes that really look terrible.

So, here's the key thing: Even if you love it, it is very possible you look like a total doofus. Being a doofus is fine, but ignorance is not a quality a man should cultivate, so be aware.

I've seen several cases where a gold watch can be great, including yesterday where a tall man black man with braids, tattoos, a t-shirt, jeans, and a toddler riding his shoulder was wearing a 36mm TT DJ with gold dial and it somehow worked perfectly, although I wouldn't quite have expected it. I would have thought the watch was too small and too formal for the outfit, but no, he looked like a professional dressed down for the weekend but still classy.

Hear me out on a far fetched conspiracy theory that crossed my mind. What if Apple is trying to kill the luxury watch game by sneaking in sub messages in blogs, magazines, media downplaying luxury watches trying to make it sound douchey and other negative perceptions so the iwatch looks more favorable?

I have the TT so I am not averse to a bit of gold. Sky-D would look silly in stainless, so gold does have its face. I also have a WG Daytona on leather, again understated with elegance.

Look to each his own, do what makes you happy. It seems that the younger crowd are less attracted by the YG whilst the older gent tend to gravitate to it a little more. This thread seem to show that.

I used to like gold in dress watches only (Calatrava, Patrimony etc.).

Now (at the age of 41) I find yellow gold Subs absolutely stunning on paper, especially the one with black dial. However I can't see myself wearing one as it's just too bling for me. Then again I might give it a shot one day.

To my Opinion :
A man wearing an all Yellow gold watch gives a certain perception which is not always the best one. LOL

In contrast, I am a big fan of Yellow or Rose gold watches on a letter strap.

There are millions of gold fashion watches out there (ie MK) for the non WIS, no one bats an eye. I seen gold fashion watches wore by all walks of life regardless of age, if anything it's trending now.
The non WIS crowd would never imagine your gold watch is worth 30 grand.

I personally like the gold roly look and to be fair some wear it better than others. I enjoy my gold Daytona, even if it has currently been commandeered by my wife.

HOWEVER whatever we may say in this thread, my opinion (sadly) is that the vast majority of people will think the wearer of a gold roly is total douche.

I doubt if I can add much to the wisdom my colleagues have already imparted.

But, my take: Rolex doesn't make douchey watches, IMO. Just a wide range of PM, SS, and TT models that will appeal to a wide range of potential watch buyers.

While there are some steel models that do and don't appeal to me...or I like but there are too many in front of it in the watch buying queue...the same goes for gold. I just happen to appreciate a fairly broad spectrum of watches. Some are gold, some are steel. (and one is titanium: the mighty Pelagos! )

So if having 1, 2, or however many PM watches in my collection at the end of the day makes me a douche, well I'm OK with that.

It's just personal taste, really.

I personally find yellow gold (and diamonds, for that matter) or a man's watch to be ostentatious. But ten people will have ten different opinions.

If you like it, go for it.

It can be a style thing. A young lady wearing a big gold (color) MK can be fashionable and not douchy.

If your style is laid back, a gold rolex will stand out like a sore thumb. If you style is put together, a gold watch can be a nice touch to your wardrobe

I love my DD and wear it in dress clothes and Saturday clothes. If I feel like wearing one of my Seikos I wear a Seiko. So if shorts a Hawian shirt and a gold chain with my president makes me a douch then so be it. But like said before it's about ones attitude not ones attire.

Personally, if ur a douche, it wouldn't matter what u wear, your still gonna be a douche, gold or no gold. I have a 16618 submariner 18k and I typically wear it gracefully. "Typically".

How about reversing this. What about the guy who loves gold and wants to wear it but doesn't because he is afraid of what others might say about him. Now that's a man I do feel sorry for, a man whose life is not his own.

I have an Everose Gold Daytona. The watch is flashy to the extreme, especially under nighttime lighting. Its like wearing a torch on my wrist.

I love the fact that it is flashy. I love the fact that celebrities wear the watch. I think the watch is ridiculous to wear or own since I work hard for my money. I don't like "fitting in", I like being different and following my own path in life.

I don't fly under the radar I head straight for it.

Point is missed, it really isn't about how much they cost or how much people make. If every time you look at your gold watch and think it costs more than your friends make, then you clearly have wasted your money.
