So, just curious... how many of you were wiling to finance your Rolex as opposed to those of you that bought your watch outright?

I chose the pay with cash option. However, my AD offered me 12 months interest free on my last purchase. I had the cash in the bank, but decided to take the 12 months anyway.

It depends.
I never did as I'm a bit oldschool. Rolex is a luxury item and if I don't have money for luxury it means I don't afford it imo. However, in some parts of the world financing is a way of life and it's normal. If it's gonna take you years to save up than go finanace. You need to decide what's best for you.

I financed one time under abnormal circumstances. I had my AD bring in a Panerai 422 for me and the wife and I went to the boutique to pick up the watch with appropriate funds in hand. While finishing up the purchase my sales associate remembered I had requested a phone call anytime a 116520 came in that was available for purchase and it just so happened they had one show up that day. I was in a tough spot because I wanted the watch but the purchase was not planned so I would need to pass on the 422 that I felt obligated to or pull money out of savings which I will not do to buy luxury items. Then they offered no strings attached 0% financing for 18 months so I purchased the watch and paid it off in 6 months. In my mind I justified the decision because it was 0% and I purchase my watches by setting aside money every month anyway so I figured why not. I would say if you could not afford the purchase without the financing (meaning cash) then don't do it. If you finance to keep out of savings or investments and there is 0% then maybe.

With cash, I've had some pull in the store for a better deal. I would only do it if it was interest free, and I would not do it out of necessity. I would either save, or get something within my budget.

Have always paid upfront in full, been offered 0% financing by several ADs but as soon as they start discounting that option goes away - cash will always be king.

Watches are expensive enough without adding interest to the cost.
I use my AmEx, for protection and for miles, and then pay it off that day or the next. |

Unless you can make more money with the money you have on hand, pay cash and it's yours. We had a similar situation when buying a new vehicle last year. Financing wasn't interesting so we just wired the money. Buy only what you can afford and live below your means, that's the trick...
