There are some nuances that are not covered in the previous discussions. We are an AD and US Postal Service Registered Mail is statistically the safest. It's kind of a pain, brown tape is so that they can stamp all of the seams, (tamper protection). You can insure it for any amount including $1,000.000, however their maximum liability is $25,000 so don't insure for more. Yes it is slow, we're on the west coast and it usually takes a week to send to Rolex NY. We've had it take two weeks, and their tracking is terrible. Your watches should be insured through your homeowner's or renter's policy on a personal articles floater or jewelry floater. Jewelers Mutual will do this also. It will need an original receipt or an appraisal. Then you will be insured either way. We have a special policy through our business insurance that covers Fed Ex to $50,000. We still send Registered Mail to Rolex as that is their requirement. Our policy covers shipping to vendors or a vendor to us, or to a customer but not from a customer to us. I think the insurance agent that told the client that if they sold the watch and they are shipping it to the buyer and it's not covered, is correct. It technically now belongs to the buyer. You may have a problem or may luck out. I had a car broken into and our luggage was stolen. It was with my wife and we had our niece with us. Our luggage was covered, our nieces wasn't because our policy only covers our goods. We also had a dress in the luggage that we were going to give to my Mother-in-law. Since we hadn't given it to her it was covered. Had we given it to her, it wouldn't have been covered. Insurance coverage is specific and the you don't want to be caught in a "weasel" clause. I believe the requirement for Rolex to send US Postal Service only is because if you steal mail it is a Federal crime. Another deterrent.

By the way, I just discovered that USPS Registered Mail can be insured up to $50k now (up from the $25k mentioned above and earlier in this thread).

ParcelPro is nice because it gives you the fleaxbility to ship UPS or FedEx. I shipped a watch to New York City and the package was automatically routed to a third party armored / armed delivery service.
ParcelPro is the way to go if you are selling/flipping watches frequently. |

Funny that they cover FedEx shipments despite being owned by UPS now. :) |

Again though, what do people do for watches over $25k or over $50k?

You can set up an individual account. I did recently. Explain your situation and you should be able to get it done. Many of my shipments with ParcelPro have been actually cheaper (not to mention MUCH faster) than USPS insured for the same amount.

If your package goes missing who would you rather talk to? Customer service or the owner of the company who's on the hook if the package doesn't show up

I would still use registered mail even if it was not insured for the full value. What mon says above is right imo.

That's correct Impossible to track and takes a long time to get there. Is it the most secure way, you bet
