John,
You are fortunate, I love the Grand Wailea. I just returned from Maui in January. I noticed you are from Salt Lake City, I am very sorry for what occurred at the Trolley Square mall. My family’s prayers go out to your city and the people hurt by that horrific event.

I actually bought a Rolex from an AD in Salt Lake while I was in Salt Lake. It was O.C. T - - - - - (I put in the blanks so as not to not violate forum rules)

In Maui there are several ADs, I have a favorite one I will tell you about if you want me to e-mail you. The staff is outstanding and they will go out of their way to help you. As I have written in several posts I was at this AD and they had a LV Sub and TT GMT II in stock. I bought the Sub. They will work with you, but if you want a rare popular model you will pay retail. You can ship the watch home next day air and save the tax. I did not see any SS Daytona but I have seen them in the past as they put them in the case and do not save them for special clients. My LV Sub was in the case when I observed it for the first time. The store is a very short car ride away from the Grand Wailea. Enjoy your trip,

I am also told there is a new direct flight out of Salt Lake on Delta, so you don’t have to stop at LAX, that might be a popular option for you if you wish. Have a nice trip.

JL,
Had the luck to vacation in Maui the past 3 years. Check out Chadwick Jewelers on Front Street. As I remember they had a nice selection.
Also, may I suggest Mama's on the north shore of Maui for the best food on the Island.
Good luck & enjoy,
dP

Grand Wailea is nice. A little like Disneyland with 1001 kids running around, but gorgeous none the less. Check out teh Four Seasons and Fairmont Kea Lani next door!

Don't know why its a secret but the closet AD to the Grand Wailea is Baron & Leeds at The Wailea Shops. You can walk there from where you are staying. Maybe you'll walk in right after they put the SS Daytona in the case! I like the people there as well but they recently frustrated me a bit re: their "rules" about not doing business with past customers remotely - via phone (me in Calif.). I didn't get a price discount when I bought my DJ a year ago last Oct but they did give me a generous trade on a 4-year old DJ I was wearing at the time. I also got the benefit of them shipping to Calif. and sparing me the sales tax.

Chadwick Jewelers are the best!!! ask for John Russell. Tell him Freddy from NYC sent you. My wife just bought my new Sub from him. I bought her DJ from him while on our Honeymoon. Its on Front Street like Dan said, I liked dealing with him because he treated us like gold. Not to mention when he shipped her DJ he gave us a free watch winder, and a ton of gifts (cookies, coffee, Maui lotion & etc). I already referred him to a couple of friends and he took care of them. I went to see her DJ at least 15 times before I bought it, and not once did he get upset or make him feel like we wasting his time (cant say the same for the AD ppl on Whalers Village). He is an awesome guy to buy from that's all I can say. IM in love with Maui, You will like it.

I echo the comment about the Chadwick guy. He was very helpful and had he had in stock the watch I wanted he would have gotten my business. He was very fair and helpful.

K4S

p.s. If there is an AD with a better location than this guy I'd like to see it!

The problem with Maui is you never want to return home. I always feel a little "blue" when I return home. In Maui there are no stresses, problems just blue water, soft sand, and beauty all around.

Has anyone here ever eaten at the Maui onion? It’s a small beach-side restaurant at the old Stouffers Wailea Resort, now it’s owned by Marriott it’s called the Renaissance. They have the best onion rings in the world. Sadly they are going to rip the hotel down in several months to build condos. They have been planning to tear the hotel down for years but they keep stalling, it looks like it might go as you can't book a room in the hotel past June.

The picture I use on my forum identifier was taken overlooking part of the hotel property. Sorry about getting off the topic.
