Is this real?

I recently bought a,1995 Rolex Datejust. It has a serial number under the lug and everything else seems right but the post production moissonite bezel is showing through a goldy colour in places under the steel..surely this isnt right?

It is almost impossible to tell anything from this photograph.

I will say that many of the diamond bezels on older DJ's are not authentic Rolex solid gold pieces but are aftermarket.

The bezel is aftermarket and is probably plated brass. The plating could be rhodium, white gold or any similar metal, but all of them will be very thin and so liable to get worn off quite quickly.

Ahh, must be using the latest Samsung S24 Potato edition for that photo.

Welcome. Slight tongue in cheek response (but the only thing in focus)... but I have no expertise in ascertaining natural nail v nail bar work !

But seriously - a few photos from various angles please...

It is not right, and don’t call me Shirley.

Very tongue in cheek…

alwayshere posted this in another thread, but I think it applies equally well here:

"Not a particularly helpful response with ‘hope and prayer’ approach. Let’s try to apply some science to assessing originality."

It's difficult to know what the OP's question really is, but I think if we can get past the humorous responses we might be able to apply some science to the problem.

The large blurry item at the bottom left appears to be a thumb and there is a coating on the nail, probably some form of acrylic. This is not original to the thumb and it is an aftermarket finish known to enthusiasts by various nicknames such as as "Bailey's Irish Cream" or "light mouse fur".

This coating should have been replaced at least a couple of weeks ago and I recommend a local craftsperson to work on this. They will probably remove the coating and replace it, but a skilled worker might be able to do some infill work where the coating is missing and blend it into the existing coating.

Alternatively, if the thumb was taken to the equivalent of a Rolex Service center, they would almost certainly recommend replacement of the nail, and if further inspection reveals any more problems possibly replacing the entire thumb and/or hand.

Hope this helps.

Oh, another thing, behind and on top of the thumb is a blurry object with another blurry object on top. The top blurry object has some blurry yellow patches mixed with some blurry steel or silver colored patches. Any ideas?
