Same here, except I sold the GTS too early too and settled on a 996- ugly as sin, but the erfect balance of 993 and 997. When I saw what a narrow body 993 was going for recently on BAT I thought the bidder had mistaken it for a C2S.

Yep. The Porsche problem is equally as bad. I was fortunate enough to get a Cayman GTS 4.0. Seems pretty much all models are extremely tough to get and dealers are charging markups now too.

I have a air-cooled collection of 911’s I have picked up over the last 25 years. The air-cooled 911 market went crazy similar to the Daytona market and similar the entire 911 market went Thunderdome years later.
I only sold one 911 last summer for a crazy price but I may have squeaked a few more dollars out if I waited to sell this summer. I am now a firm believer not to sell any air-cooled 911 or Daytona at this point regardless of market.

Feels like the 116500 is on the cusp of a big price surge.

In fact it has already started but when the stock disappears from the Greys all at the same time it's like the tide rolling out before a tsunami

Because people are paying them?
Why make it that hard for yourself?

There could further underlying reasons. This seems like a pretty decent trend upwards in a short amount of time.

Better have something/anything tangible then ones and zeros on your screen that can be produced in unlimited quantities out of thin air with a keystroke.
Only a true idiot would put any value into that.....

There are few if any NIB white dial 116500's for sale at any of the popular TRF trusted sellers right now. It could be that something has really shaken up their supply pipeline, or they've seen some crazy Chrono24 asking prices and have pulled their inventory offline to reprice it.

Chrono24 asking prices might indicate an up or down trend, but I don't believe that's where watches are actually trading. Chrono24 sellers figure if they've got someone who will pay them $55k for a 116500 that they'll be able source one and still make money.

I agree that Chrono24 prices are not a good representation of selling prices but as you said they give a good indication about market direction.
Also sorting prices from low to high, and looking at the cheapest prices is a better reflection of "real price" rather than looking at the most expensive listings. I have followed the cheapest listings for the 116500 white over the last few days, and most of them were marked reserved or sold shortly. I guess those remaining with "lower" prices are not real listings as we know that there are many "fake" listings and the dealers don't have the watch in stock or try to source it afterwards.

I feel the recent increase in OP prices, particularly the ones in turquoise have contributed slightly to this? Some people were even offered a straight trade for a Daytona. Not surprising if people decide to take the offer and lower the available supply for a Daytona.

Do not disagree. If an OP Turquoise 41 mm goes for $40,000, then a 116500LN (White) should be well above $50k.

I dont want to sound like a dick but...
If you had bought one from a Gray 7yrs ago, what would you have paid then?
Plus the value of having what you want during that timeframe

Seven years ago, it would have been a 116520 (steel bezel), so different watch.

If he's been on the waitlist 7yrs obviously thats what he wanted (back then at least)
What was the premium on a 520 back then vs now?

520s never had much of a premium. i believe they only even had a premium for a few years and it wasn't more than 20%. the 500 changed that for daytonas, once that came out all the others went up slowly

Better buy one now and be done with it. Start enjoying the watch intead of waiting. If you had bought one at grey prices even just 3 years ago, you would have been enjoying the watch with a good increase in resale value should the need have ever arisen.

$46k according to Chrono24, but we’ll on it’s way to $50k yes. I think it will hit $60k by EOY.

The Rolex Daytona cost $14550 and if you're not going to flip it the price doesn't matter.

It’s somewhat tempting to trade a white dialed 116500 for a WG GMT.

It’s a deal at 50k. Wait until it’s discontinued and the replacement is 75k out of the gate.

Is 60 years for the Daytona.
As 2013 was the year for the 116506, “expectations “ (no one really knows) fueled by market makers is for a “new” version …

I would not wait. If you really want one, it is better not to time the market, and just jump in.

I think it depends on your ceiling. If you’re willing to pay 55k but not 60, then you have some time to wait and see what happens. I would monitor it very closely, because 50k seems to me like a point that the white dial will cross. The higher it climbs, the tougher it gets at retail and more it pushes the secondary. Once it cross 55-60, new retail buyers will be dumping them to grey sellers to cash in on a 40k payday.
