Huge different..... the patina and sandwich dial match perfect with the polished case on the 512.

I thought that I was finished with Panerai, but the 512 is REALLY appealing to me. I need to see one IRL, but I love this case/lug design.

The 512 is now trickling into stores; my local AD just got one. I had one on preorder, but wound up with the 338; not a knock against the 512 (love the 1940 case), but in the end I wanted the gold hands on the 338 more.

The P999 movement shared by both watches is so slim it has to be seen, and makes the 338 supremely wearable under a cuff. The 42mm diameter is also a refreshing change, for those times you want to wear a Panerai but perhaps more discretely.

Keep in mind the differences in the watches. The 512 is a 42mm Radiomir with a 60 hour power reserve. The 233 is a 44mm Luminor with 8+day power reserve.

Pair up with a nice croc and it will make a very nice dress watch.

But it is still very difficult to swallow the fact that it uses spring bars instead of the usual screws. Not saying that it's bad or inferior, just wouldn't associate spring bars with Panerai.

Second thoughts, Lughole fans might warm up to this one.

100% agree ... Why would they use springbars ... Well at least lugholes.

42 is a great size... but i don't know if i could manage a 42mm panerai?
i had a 45 Rad210 and that was very usable size for me... the 47mm 127 also feels quite comfortable.
if the larger ones didn't exist then the 42mm would be unbeatable, but that is not the case.

I'm getting a 514 tomorrow, the side by side picture above is awesome to see. I've been hearing that even being a 47mm it will still fit under the shirt sleeve. Guess if it's to big I can always pick up the 512 if they don't all sell out before!
