I admit it. I had one homage. Well I actually still have it. Haven't worn it for over two years. They don't compare to the real thing.

It will never be like a real one, but the one i saw looked nice. I would probably wear sapringly if ever but it would be cool to just have it

The only one I would consider is the RXW Marina Militare

www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=276

In some ways, not a homage at all. Ironically, these were also copied... so, replicas of a homage, sort of...

I missed out on a BNIB example a couple of years ago; doubt I'll find another...

This got me quite curious and started to read up on this on a sleepless night. (fussy baby....)

RXW that Clive mentioned above actually no longer existed. Something about them being sued by OP for the infringement on the Patent crown guard. However, Marina Militare watches are still on the market where they are called Parnis?! These are homage watches from China with a Chinese movement which is so very damn close to the real thing, cosmetically, mechanically I have my doubts. Reading on some other forums and what others have to say, their opinions varies quite a bit. Some said it is a piece of junk where it breaks within months and some said they are reliable.

Well for $100+ I guess you have to set your expectation right for the purchase...

But I agree with Mik, it's nothing compare to the real thing. I have the real thing and i would see myself having a hard time slapping on a homage.

I agree, I love my 005 and probably would not wear a homage that often, maybe it could be a beater watch, I found one on Ebay that looks nice, it is at $76, I will watch it to see if it goes high or not, if it goes low I may bid, only just to have it.

Ah! If you do win the bid and get it. I would love to hear your perspective on he quality and etc! For $76, it would be a good investment for the experiment itself!

Wow. First time I'm hearing about the RXW, but now that I know about it, I'm obsessed. Some have even said that the MM20 is even closer to the original Italian Navy watch than anything Richemont-Panerai has put out. (I don't know enough to agree/disagree, but still an interesting perspective to see stated)

Boy do I wish I could have jumped on an opportunity to get one of these when they were available from Ken Sato. Amazing what bargain price these were being sold for too.

The RXW/Ken story is a fascinating one. I just wish I had grabbed a MM when they were available. A BNIB full package would be quite a catch

Be very careful if you are looking for one as there are many f@kes...

I had a RXW MM20 before, bought it after hearing all the novelty about it, but bearing in mind a pam is still very much in my consideration, though i thought a MM20 would do it.. but it didnt, must say that the MM20 finishes really well and I was quite sure it could last me 3 generations or more..it just didnt get there.

I ended up with a couple of pams and sold the MM swiftly...a surf on homages happens occasionally but I know it won't do it for me and I probably will sell it off within a month or so, again.

Fitting a pam to my wrist and a homage is just a very different experience altogether.

No comparison. Homage is just another way of trying to wear a PAM without spending PAM money.

Well I probably won't be bidding on the auction, it is at $335, no reason to buy that when I have a real one.

It does look nice though...

The only homages I accept are those made by the same company (ie JLC doing a Tribute to Polaris). Others feel like fakes to me.

A homage for $335? Wise move for not bidding on that. I'd pay $100 tops just for the experiment itself....

Let's all enjoy the real thing!

$351 now. but you are right, I have a real deal PAM, no need for that for the price, I will save it and put it towards something else.

I would love to just hold it to see how well it is made.

I do recommend two of Ken Sato's RXW watches - MM20 ( Fiddy style) and MM25 (Cali style). I have both and they are very, very nice.

You may find them around, just saw the two on TZ last week.

There's BTW fakes of those watches, be careful.

Quality on that models is outstanding, even straps and presentation box is very good.

IMO, do not buy such homages like eBay's , buy instead the RXW real ones and you'll be amazed.

JFYI, MM20 is around US$ 1,2~1,5K, and MM25 around US$ 700~800. Big bang for your buck.

best

Doesn't having a crown guard with "REG. T.M." defeat the idea of a sterile copy (homage) and move it into infringement?

Of Course it does. These are just parts lots bought from the same Replica companies and assembled. No more no less, just without the fake dial to lure in more people who would never buy a fake but the same people are making the same money off it.

Agree. That's why I am ashamed to use it in public.

In other forum, the "REG" is infringement and banned. But not in other forums.

In my opinion, the quality of the homages cannot be compared to the real thing. But having said that, these homages does have there place in the Pam world.

Take myself for an example, I was very intrigued by the design of a Panerai but wasn't quite sure if I could pull off the size of the watch, adding to that it carrys quite a hefty price tag. Therefore i held off the purchase for a very long time until I got to acquire a used homage at a very reasonable price.

Putting on the homage for a week gave me the thought that if a homage can look, wear and feel this good. The real McCoy must be even better, there came my 312 and now I cannot be without one.

Fast forward to present, the homage has a new role being my model when I am making straps and helping to break in straps when I use it at home.
